  2. Sounds a bit like the French Alps? Try somewhere near Thones; it often gets up to 25-30°C during summer, whilst winters aren't as severe as higher up in the mountains, but there are a few falls of 6-12 inches each year I believe.

Ooooo... yes please! Regarding snowfall, when I go down a few miles into Stanley and Consett, there are massive amounts of snow, if I get hit by an inch, they get hit by 3!

  3. that is pretty depressing,.........................i hate the british climate, obstinately temperate,in colour terms a dull shade of grey..................give me some extremes please, give me a mountains of snow in winter then a desert sun in summer,,i genuinely think the british climate has a profound effect on our psychology,ie it is depressing,i think it contributes to our high suicide rate in europe. The north west pacific with its similar climate has a high suicide rate also..........our wet, often cloudy, monotonous weather is bad for the brain, amogst other things

Really? You could always tell us what you think, and what would be your perfect climate!

I have to say, one thing I particularly like about NE England is that it is much more capable of getting heavy snowfall than other parts of the UK! 6 inches is certainly a good fall of snow, but not all that uncommon in the North East. It has happened around half a dozen times here since 1990.

    EDIT: 1991, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2010, for example, possibly 1994, 1996? Not sure about the last 2.

I agree; we here in NE England have brilliant amounts of snowfall, when others don't!

  4. It's not the official winter forecast (that's out in october), it's the usual long range update which occurs every month, and no we certainly don't team up with PWS!!

It'll be online in the next hour.

Ah... right, I know where that is. Take half a degree off in the North East, thanks. :good:

  5. im assuming net weather will be making the forecast, but i think positive wetaher solutions team up with them lol

    LOL.

Eeesh... If they say an early winter, with record cold and snow in November and December, I would jump around every single spot in Durham. I don't care if January and February are 15C and scorching. I just want the time between early November and Late December to be Cold and Snowy. I don't like late Winter, just early Winter. ~

    Random Rant Over...

  6. Been scanning around 200 full pages of the Regional North East Cold Spell discussion from the most recent winter. Honestly, I should on NetWeather ages ago. It has just wet my appetite for snow. Alot of snow. Loadsa of snow. If it's as good as last year, I'll have 5 paragraphs of excitement every single post.

Now, I'm just waiting for the stuff...

  7. Pretty sure we had this conversion a year or so ago. I believe results (rough agreed!) were as following.

    Snowiest

    England City Durham

    England Town Alston

    England Village Nenethead.

    Scotland City Aberdeen

    Scotland Town Aviemore

    Scotland Village Tomintoul

Not sure about NI and Wales. I do remember people going on and on about what makes a city

I've never been prouder to be a Durham Citizen w00t.gif

    Now to google search 'Nenethead'...

  8. Dream winter scenario:

December 19: Easterly from Russia moves inland...

December 20: Finland, Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic get hit with up to 150cm in places, with record falls throughout Central Europe.

December 21: Cold bands of air left behind give record low temperatures for them nations aswell! Southern Sweden, Denmark and the Low Countries get smashed by heavy snowfall.

December 22: Severe cold temperatures throughout Mainland Europe, Northern France gets hit aswell, Norway smashed by more record snowfall.

December 23: High pressure moves into Britain, and leaves record low temperatures, -30C in Tulloch Bridge and at Ptarmigan, on CairngormMtn. Cold continues with -50C in some parts of Central Norway, along with record French snowfall.

December 24: High pressure splits across the UK and finally gives our first snow of the season! Heaviest in Central, Northern and Eastern Parts. With Shap getting 2.5m in 12 hours and Leeds getting 1.1m, London gets over half a metre, and the coldest, snowiest winter storm ever is recorded.

December 25: Low pressure moves across to Ireland, and gives most of Ireland, morning snow, as the UK and Ireland wake up to Christmas with a Winter Wonderland.

Oh... and make the rest of the winter as mild as you want!

Not too much too ask, is it?

Oh, and one last thing, when referring to this, please call it 'Beasterly'. Thanks.

  9. If you click on the recent site activity on that site you can see the name of the person as Arjan Sangha. It certainly is an interesting read.

It says his name is Thomas Rosetti at the bottom, he's updated it again. I can't see recent site activity cc_confused.gif

    Night anyway!
