Well first lightning of the season, we had parked at Beverley for our trip today, and when we were leaving heading towards Driffield we saw 3 quite clear flashes illuminating distant cloud tops to the North. Not sure how far away, maybe 25+ miles, but quite clear with one quite clear set of 'crawlers' down the cloud

No hint of snow at the coast, apart from the wind not a bad day, although are were some showers about. Lunchtime saw winds W force 6-7, still enough to make cycling a challenge once out of the shelter of the village, but not as bad as yesterday, managed to do my full 10 miles today. Temps 6c but felt colder in the wind. Partly sunny. Dodged this shower which looked to be over towards Fordon

Well lunchtime today, very strong winds and mild, Wind force 7-9 SW, temps at 12c. Bike ride into the wind was a slog, had to cut short as it was taking too long, managed just over 8 miles in all. Last 10 minutes also produced a light shower. In all a horrible day for cycling, dont like mild, dont like strong winds, dont like rain.

Light showers here at the coast, a lot of graupel with snow mixed in. Even although its only a covering its not thawing. Weather radar shows sleet here but there is nothing liquid in the showers this morning. Very grey with an easterly wind. Not sure how we will fare at the coast later, temperatures are very borderline here, 1c either way could be the difference between a wet afternoon and evening and a snow storm. Inland any east facing slopes with a little elevation will almost certainly get snow.

Snow/grauple showers here at the coast on and off since late morning, showers are light and its not quite cold enough to settle given the light nature of them, but there isnt a hint of any rain. Lunchtime bike ride produced a force 3 E wind with temps at 3c, cloudy and some showers of mixed grauple and snow, felt very cold. Still pockets of snow hanging about where the sun didn't get yesterday. Given that we only had 2-3cms its certainly slow to clear. There were some really good fall streaks while I was out which I tried to photograph but they havn't really come out, only had phone camera, not my 'proper' one.

As a confirmed heat hater, married to heat hater, 2022 and in particular July are my all time number one hates, and bear in mind I was born in 1957 and have been interested in weather and meteoroiogy since my early teens. Next one would probably be end May begining June 1975. To paint the picture, 18 yo, passed my driving test a couple of months previously, bought my first car, and with a girlfriend who also wanted a holiday and was also into walking, we booked 10 days in the north of Scotland, plan was to go walking amongst other things. We went early in the year because we were told that the midges wouldn't be out yet. Well they weren't, they were frozen to any surface I think. Cold, wet, and proper full on snow one day, yes I always have been a heat hater, but this was just ridiculous. We did find other things to occupy our time, but she turned out to be Miss Right Now rather than Miss Right. Number 3 would be autumn 2000, October and November. We were living on the edge of the Vale of York, and the flooding was the worst in my memory. Visiting my wifes family in Hull we decided to go by train from Thirsk as the flooding had closed loads of roads and as a result the main roads that were open were jammed. I can remember when we left Selby to head east it looked like we were in the middle of an inland sea, with just the trees sticking up above the water which spread as far as the eye could see with the train on a high bank. Finally digging back into the memory banks, I can just remember the last smog in London in December 1962, it turned completely dark at midday, pretty spooky/scary for a 5yo. The snow that followed was fun for a 5yo, but I now realise that it was a pretty desperate time for a lot of people.

Well no bike rides since Tuesday as my bike is in for service and repairs, 3000 miles in all weathers on mostly muddy roads since Noverber 2021 has taken it toll on gears and chain. As a result walks are my lunchtime exercise but bike is back this afternoon Todays walk was aborted due to showers, a Force 3-4 NNW is blowing the showers down the North Sea with just the coast catching them. 7c but sunny for the first 20 mins This was the changing sky walking up toward the cliffs

Well feature of the day, wind, again. WSW force 8-9 made riding my bike into it just about impossible once out of the shelter of the village. I managed 3 miles of head winds before giving up due to lack of time. The ride back was better but being buffeted by the wind meant I couldn't take full advantage. Very mild at 13c and broken cloud. The wind was actully worse today than during the yellow warning last week here. I actually dont think the current warning system conveys the information that the public need. A very severe life threatening event with a slight possibility gets the same warning as a 'borderline' event with high probability.
