Thing is, I like the idea of autumn/ winter if they turn out how you hope; sadly, frequently they're nothing of the sort - and end up grey, wet, windy & miserable. There was a thread last year about what we like/dislike about winter.

That is half the fun for me, eagerly awaiting positive updates in the MOD thread, the thrill of the chase and Especially when it turns out as most want in winter!

Waiting to read the updates with a cup of Tea when I get in from work is the best hour of my day!

Today has really been quite an incredible day on the Island, a few areas on the island might of even had there highest ever temperature's recorded locally, including my location. Here is a top 5 list and a map of all the islands temperature's from Today. 2 of the stations that were showing 36'c, one is ran by us the Isle of Wight Met Service, and the other is a different station very close which isn't ours. Even right now the Temperature has gone back up to 27.4'c after being 26.1 about half an hour ago.

Here we have the top 5 list for the main areas on the island it self

For a time the winds were E to ESE, then suddenly they turned South, causing a mad FOHN effect and a sudden rise in temperature as all the hot air sunk down off of Shanklin downs.

So is it a record or not then?  Is your station set up correctly? I for one will only believe it is a record if the MET office say, otherwise anyone with a weather station will be claiming records, and when you see headlines in the local press saying it is record temperatures then this is very misleading and they are quoting you can you actually confirm it is a legitimate record? If not I would be careful of using your name to claim this records.

I have a Davis In my garden and it showed 39 degrees can I claim this as a record?...... I think not because it is not calibrated and in the correct position.

Super smashing great! A staggering 36.1c was recorded on the Isle of Wight today (Sunday) - breaking yesterday’s record of 35.4c. If you’ve been thinking that it was hotter today than the past 48 hours then...

I think our local press have turned into the Express apparently it was 36.1 on the IOW today I don’t believe it for a second!

Tonight is the first night that I’ve actually noticed the nights getting longer again.
... Mind you, the increasing darkness in a morning has been coming along for a while now.

Yes noticed it as well - absolute bliss as far as I am concerned - 10 days time and sunset will be before 9 and the descent to Autumn is truly on the horizon! Heaven!

  5. Personally can’t wait until we are past the longest day, these long light days I find horrible - I know it is strange but I genuinely get depressed because of the long days.  I suffer from depression anyway but this time of year it gets worse and I tend to have to up my medication.  I really long for the darker evenings so roll on September it can’t come soon enough for me!
