  1. Just got in from work tried to look at sky long range forecast no interactive working then went to bbc to look at weather same thing interactive not working are they hiding something from the public are we in for some really bad weather.i do hope so.

They are not hiding anything ....... just clueless again. Not just the MetO but all predictions are chopping and changing!! We were predicted snow tomorrow, now in the last few hours its changed to rain/sleet. Now we are less than 24hrs away from that prediction and they cannot produce a proper forecast :-)

  2. Who cares about Sussex! As long as we get 10 foot drifts and at least 2 feet of lying snow I'll be happy. Any less than that then It will be a very dire winter I'm afraid.

I'm so sorry Paul ....... last October I purchased spare wheels and winter tyres after 2009/2010 & 2010/2011 and we know how little snow we had in 2011/2012. I sold the wheels/tyres in April!

Fast forward to now, just changed my stock summer tyres to all-season tyres ....... oh and I'll be spending some time near Christmas in Buntingford :-0

    Sorry!

  3. I rest my case that the midlands and north get the most thunderstorms of any region in Britain.

Metoffice was looking promising for this week (yesterday to Saturday) and look what's happened in South Bucks!

    ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!

Nothing on wednesday, nothing today, will be nothing tonight looking at net-weather's Premium Euro Radar and I'm healthily pessimistic there will be, as per usual, NOTHING tomorrow.

The Home Counties get absolutely bugger all in terms of storms and I'm sick of it.

    Unfortunately ....... Agreed!

  4. I work for a housing association and have just been called by a tenant to advise that lightening has struck 2 properties setting them both on fire and flooding five properties at the bottom of the street in Newcastle West End...

The downside to all of this "excitement" ....... very powerful stuff. I was called once to a report of a tree on fire in Chesham (Bucks) many years ago. We rolled up in attendance and this very large tree had been totally snapped by the lightning and indeed was still on fire! Awesome power!!

  5. Well as per usual, absolutely sweet FA near Wycombe in South Bucks. I totally reject what the "experts" say about thunderstorm frequency in UK regions, that the south-east of England apparently sees the most storms....TOSH. Maybe not if you're on the outskirts of Kent, in Margate, or in Eastbourne in East Sussex and are totally vulnerable to common french imports, but here in the north-west of south-east England, I have not seen one decent thunderstorm (as in frequent lightning not 5-10 flashes and everything is all over) since about 2005, and that was a French import that one. Had an "ok" thunderstorm earlier this year with up to 10 flashes, but that's pants let's be honest.

Last decent storm I saw wasn't even in the country, it was in Phoenix, Arizona, USA back in August 2008.

I am never optimistic because it never bleeding happens here!!!! sad.png

Agreed - I'm literally "just down the road" and feel the same. Last what I'd call decent storm was probably around 2004/2005 perhaps when I was in Bucks Fire. We were called out to lightning strikes on the Met Line in Lt. Chalfont (Tube train smoking :-) and then to multiple strikes over in Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross (as their pump "died" in the floods) and even over the border into London. trouble is that I was driving the appliance and couldn't watch much of it :-(

    One day .... fingers crossed.

  6. Never heard of it being on MW. I have two modern radios and MW doesn't exist, it's just AM and FM, and in the past, AM was what i used to pick up the sferics.

Back on topic, local forecasts haven't mentioned a single thing about anything thundery. Either there's going to be a big bust, or it's going to be down to the wire.

    AM = MW :-)

Very calm sky here, a blanket of cloud and nothing "bubbling".

  7. It's been a very wet and windy night near Marlow, Bucks. Still this morning it continues, it is howling outside and the rain is being driven hard against the windows

The garden has numerous large pots blown over and judging by my mobile phone battery status, it stopped charging about five hours ago, yep power cut time. Called Scottish and Southern and their automated service simply said due to the weather there has been wide spread damage in many areas. Normally they give an area affected and an ETA for fix. This message is very general so I think many different areas are suffering :-(

  9. Spot on polarlow ...... I have been following the model threads for several weeks now and it never ceases to amaze me. The METO can never really give a reliable forecast beyond 24-48hrs let alone t+<insert whatever you think looks snowy>. Believe me, I wish the amateur forecasters were spot on ...... I'm sure my winter tyres are melting day by day!!!

God spare me, for anyone trying to learn some posts on the model thread are so frustrating - 'big upgrade', 'stellar run', 'best this winter', 'snowmageddon at +35408 hours.'

Oh wait - 'game over', huge downgrade, 'winter's over', 'mild all the way', 'Atlantic wins out'. 'Remember, don't comment on FI...but look at this chart for February 20, it shows 6ft of snow and -60 temps!'

Meh! I await this to be deleted.
