  1. Not exactly sure HC but I do know that the Nursing Home near Auchnahillin is at 870ft as my Grandfather informed me when he went there and we are up the road from that, so at least 900ft plus?? Our 16 days in December were consecutive but sadly could'nt contend with the mild spell before Christmas so we lost it all in the early part of the week running up to it. Nethybridge is a nice wee place, a very cold little hollow too!
  2. Pretty uneventful so far really AWT. The snow has been far from disruptive, I would usually expect to be snowed in with the driveway impassable at least twice over the course of a winter, so far that has yet to happen once, still plenty time though! The last three winters have seen some phenomonal snow depths up here, 09/10 in particular where we basically had snow cover from the 2nd week in December all the way through to the first four days of April. I live at height and in the woods so the snow takes a good while to shift. Today it took a bit of a battering with that rain mind!
  3. Nah, I am mearly a teuchter mountain goat, of no interest to them :winky:
  4. Sound's like a nice visit of some lake effect snow for South Bend Indiana but, as we know, the US is firmly having a mild one like us thus far Click A Winter's Tale I wish I could be more specific for your snow log (no count for days with falling snow) but here's the story so far from this neck of the woods 3 days lying November 16 Days lying December 3 Days lying January Max snow depth - 19cm Wed 7th Dec
  5. Similar story here, dreich as hell, a cold cold wind and a start to the snow melt, 3.8C now, a depressing affair all round. Hear what you are saying about the animals, got a border collie pup that's usually desperate to run out round the house but this last week you have had to crowbar him outside to do his business
  6. It did look by far the worst this winter CMD! Is it too much to ask for a meaty, prolonged blast from a Northerly or Easterly any time soon? Preferabley not accompanied by winds that would blow Michelle McManus off a mo-ped
  7. Good grief, a tad windy for so many of you today! :o Hope you are all grand and unscathed after that now familiar battering. When I flicked on the TV this morning to catch the news the camera over the Clyde was shaking so much behind Catriona Shearer it was like some sort of Fight Club version of Reporting Scotland  As a few of the fellow northerners have reported, it's been a much calmer affair up here today. Certainly no snow-fest either even up here on the higher ground, though we did get a top up by a few meaty showers through the day. All quiet at the mo and currently 1.6C
  8. Sorry Snowy Owl, my laptop has been on the blink. As Poots correctly stated the A9 was down to 10mph. Could'nt see the road at times. Similar story for tomorrow by the looks of it but with the high winds the A9 will be a joke in some places. Will maybe post some pics of the snow tomorrow if I can
  9. Just took over 5 hours to get up the A9 from Edinburgh. An absolute tonne of snow at drumochter and by this time tomorrow there will be much more by the looks of it. Got around 10 cm cover here. Looking forward to what could be a snow fest in the next 24hrs!
  10. A dark horrible day here, went from snow early in the day, to wet snow, to sleet. Settled now and 3.4C
  11. currently 1.5C and snowing. Wind picked up a fair bit in the last hour too
  12. Thankfully the yawn inducing windy weather has been replaced by some snow today, very light covering so far and the odd shower of big flakes. Feels too much like winter, awaiting the 70mph winds and horizontal rain to return and smack me in the face with their bawbagedness Edit* Heavy snow now and currently 1.8C Just up the road from me the Slochd is looking good http://trafficscotla...&itemtypeids=26
  13. Just had a brief but very welcome snow shower here Edit* now snowing again, lighter this time
  14. After reading your post this morn HC I could'nt help myself and promptly blared out some Little Fluffy Clouds, no doubt awakening the local wildlife, but highly enjoyable too, so cheers! 2.3C here and still a nice covering of crisp snow, though now awaiting the arrival of the warmth in the coming days, suppose it will be more conducive/less leg breaking weather for my inevitable and manic last minute shopping excursions
  15. Very true AWT, maybe the stonking snow in recent Christmas periods has made the arrival of a mild one that bit more of a let down, but as you say, it has indeed been a good December, and a few weather forecasters have been pointing to this winter finishing more livelier than it arrives, so here's hoping! Some Ice up here HC, minor roads like a bottle, one thing I won't miss when our warmth arrives
  16. Gotta admit, after 2 weeks with snow around the house i'm pretty gutted at the prospect of this mild run up to Christmas. Would easily have swapped the last 14 days for a more festive looking crimbo time. Though, as long as the cold stuff returns pronto i'm sure i'll live Any hint's yet on the next cold snap?? 3.4C here, driveway looking slushy and a damn pain in the erse to negotiate
  17. Some very heavy snow for the last hour or so just gave us another 3 inches, much heavier than anything Bawbag gave us last night. Light snow now. -1.2C *Edit* Very heavy snow again
  18. Just in. Cracking driving through all the blizzard action tonight, the Slochd was really tasty, not a great deal to show for it back here mind, most of the snowcover is from what we got earlier in the week. Nice and calm 2.4C. Bawbag has left the building Must also add my congrats Cheggers and all the best. What a memorable day for the him to arrive!
  19. That's it turned to snow here, bawbag snow. Just in time for me having to leave the house. Back later. Stay safe on your travels people
  20. Just been out for what has to be my most dedicated cigarette in history. Thing's really cooking here now, very high winds, temps dropping, turning sleety, should be quite something when the snow arrives. Like Lorenzo mentioned, think the 'bawbag' label is very much the Scottish humour and takes nothing away from the severity or serious nature of thing's. Help's moral, much like those gentlemen we used to have playing the pipes in the middle of warzones
  21. aye, been there a few times, it's such a pain in the ar*e when you want to ski back down though Temps pretty erratic here, dropped to 2.4C, now back at 4.1C. Very interested to see what that monster mass of precipitation coming in off the north west is going to look like when it arrives
  22. The Ptarmigan building is only about 500ft down from the summit so if they are, it'll be pretty hairy! used to it up there though. temp still dropping and a gale howling. 2.7C now
  23. Was wondering if the Gorm's record would go today, not far off it!
