Hanging on for dear life here for a sub zero day. Currently -0.0 Sleet.
-
8 Inches on the ground and still snowing. Temps are rising here though. now -0.1
-
The front is taking more of a NW'erly track than I expected so there may be hope for some of you yet. It's giving steady light snow here, but nothing like last night's showers which were relentless. I'm not complaining, 8 inches on the ground and -0.4.

I just don't get it. I live in the highest place between London and the Ural Mountains in Russia and all I can see is starry skies yet apparently its chucking it down a few miles away in St Alban's. Is this some sort of sick joke you are all playing?

Thanks for the roundup, Carinth - though that seems to be the ice map for 12th November (or is my computer going mad?). I think this is the (Bremen) map for 1st January:
To add to your info, despite the cold spell the Baltic ice is still well below normal (and water temps well above) - indeed it's scarcely better than it was this time last year: http://www.fimr.fi/en/itamerinyt/en_GB/jaatilanne/#middle
But surely that is the wrong map also? It says 1 Jan 2008.

A BIG storm passed over North London on Sunday with a lot of rain and a lot of lightning. Well, my next door neighbour's house was struck by lightning and they are now currently digging up their kitchen to try and get power back to their house. For myself, two rather expensive TVs, a computer and a DAB radio are now useless. I wasn't in the house at the time but my brother likened the sound to a terrorist bomb and cowered on the floor (how he knows what one sounds like is beyond me)
My roof mounted anemometer must have been about 4-5 meters from the strike but is mostly OK. The only problem is now the wind direction is stuck on 14 degrees and the lithium battery powering the main unit has been destroyed.
Does anyone how easy the wind vane on a Davis Vantage Pro is to fix/replace?

Ok I've got that common problem with the rain bucket not working. I know I need to replace the Reed switch but Davis USA have told me they wont ship to UK. Can anyone point me in the direction of the correct Reed Switch I need for the Vantage Pro?

Moderate snow here in Barnet. Quite surprising really as the temp and dew point continue to increase yet the snow gets heavier.
-
Many parts of London are now flooded, high street shops using sand bags to keep water out. 23.6 mm in 45 mins. Rain stopped, still thunder + lightning.
-
Why isn't the rain over London showing up on any of the radars? The rain rate here has just peaked at 128 mm/hr (the highest i've ever recorded) and there is constant CC and CG lightning.
-
THE most amazing night of storms I have ever seen. Have had a flash of lightning approximately every 2-3 seconds for about 2 hours. I have never seen rain so intense either. The A10 not far from here is completely flooded.
-
That would make sense Paul seeing as i'm in NW London
Loads of thunder, heavy rain/hail.
-
Anyone got any idea why its 5.2 degrees here yet websites are reporting that Central London is at 3 degrees? We are usually at least a degree cooler than Central London
-
Just clipped the edge of something rather big. Small hailstones involved. Now heading over London and of towards essex. No thunder from it yet.

One of the best convective days here all year. Although we've had very little precipitation, the clouds are amazing and are still growing as they move towards Hertfordshire.
-
Nothing it seems all day then. I think i've just heard a rumble.
Sorry, was my stomach

Attention anyone north west of Barnet. Just started getting considerably heavier here.
