Sunny in Aycliffe, slow thaw under way. Paths are still lethal mind. Out of this weather system we've had, you would of thought at least one good dumping. Early days.
-
Snowing heavy now in Aycliffe
-
Don't get me wrong, I love the snow. It's still on the ground, fog and frosty as well. This is a close 2nd for me, no mild mush this time of year thank you

Its a shame to see some experienced members on here disagreeing over HLB, the effects of a SSW. Firstly it does look like becoming milder, with a threat of yet more flooding for many places thanks to Heavy Rain & Snow Melt, also some areas could see gales through the coming week ahead.
Its worth noting that this cold and snowy spell we are in currently didn't show up weeks before it happened, but at very close range, 6 days roughly? So whos to say that can't happen as we head into Februray?
Considering we haven't had extensive and strong Northern Blocking, we have done very well, 3 snow events down here since the cold spell arrived, a very cold night ahead tonight as we come close to the end of this spell of more exciting weather, throw in a Snow-Rain event too. I think it is because we saw the small effects of a SSW, that our weather has improved (more wintery) though we haven't seen the full effects of a SSW like some would expect it seems! Plenty of time for winter to show its head again, keep the faith folks!
Mark, spot on mate. Echoing mine and a few others thoughts.
At times a few posters are acting like they are on the Daily Mail winter forum, so far for me its been great to see the models and the weather change so fast. And of course I have learned a far amount from it all

I find it weird Gavin that Darlo is just about three miles from me and the snow is so different. Think we are about the same asl as well ???

It has not stopped snowing here since 8.30 this morning....it's mad really.
-
13cm now in my garden. Now break in the snow, lightish now. Stark contrast between Darlington and Aycliffe. The house roofs are covered.
-
It's not stopped here all day, heavy bursts often coming down followed by light stuff
-
Snow falling well here, quite impressed really tbh. Not mega depths, but 3-4 cm on top of stuff that never went away.
5cm on my patio table :-)
-
Snowing well in Newton Aycliffe, about 3cm worth I think

has the met upgraded our weather warnings?
Local authority's have upgraded the amount of salt they put down on each run.....and they don't like to waste salt.
-
