  1. Yes, Sleet showing for Brighton and the sun is shining bright at the moment - very very small flakes of snow in the last 1/2 hour. What happens if its sleet /snow/sleet - will it all met or freeze and be a nightmare? Now thinking either rain OR snow might be better for us :-(
  2. I thought that too - but dont understand the other criteria for snow - its tricky - now more concerned at snow - rain- snow in my area, snow is good, ICE is not in my opinion
  3. Thanks - we are always in the no-mans land and need to just watch and see. METO still saying sleet and temps rising during Sat Night? Maybe thats the air coming off the channel!? Oh how I wish I understood better lol
  4. also just wondering on teh GFS charts the difference between snow risk and precipitation type - I always thought the snow risk showed the degree between rain and snow as it were, so if its green/yellow, it closer to rain and pink is likely to be snow - so this particular chart suggests marginal? is that right? http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=nwdc;sess=
  5. Just trying again for a science lesson :-) Brighton and Hove is always on the western edge of snow predicted for the east of our area - cant see how they know our little lump on the map will or wont be included but hey. I cannot remember the things that effect whether coasts get snow or rain - I think Easterly winds are more helpful for snow and this situation isnt that, so what would determine what might fall here? I am expecting snow then sleet and not much to settle (although I am on a hill in Brighton, so it sometimes makes a difference :-)) Why would Eastbourne be less vulnerable to rain for instance as usually its snow there, Newhaven as well
  6. Can you remind me how the coast effects rain/snow events, I am thinking that here on the south coast (Brighton) we often get snow if its an easterly but maybe not coming from the west? Very hilly here so it varies across the city too, just trying to remember the science! Dew points too - what does that need to be for snow?
  7. Looks like a definate last minute thing with knowing what will happen - rain/snow and where, looks to me more like a mix except for the far east of kent where it looks fairly certain that early hours sunday through to Monday would see snow! Am I looking at these charts right! :-)
  8. Roughly speaking: Yellow warning over Kent and East Anglia Tonight and tomorrow Yellow warning for southeast Sunday morning midnight to noon - 5-10cm and at low levels
  9. metoffice Met Office Weather warnings can be seen through the blog, a PDF file is available towards the end of article 'Wintry weekend' bit.ly/9xFi89 ^SJ 32 seconds ago Favorite Retweet
  10. OOOO better let them know my grit bin is full of rubbish not grit!! lol
  11. MO still showing rain for Brighton, snow inland. The general public sure do need warnings in my opinion, I dont know anyone else that watches weather like me so hope they put some up today, or at least get a bit more emphasis on the amounts or possible distruption according to these charts
  12. I remember those winters and its how I think of winters! Bright blue skies, frost and then some snow - which i seem to remember never stopped my parents driving around and trains worked too!!! I have been watching all week and in the past I would have said Brighton is almost always the place that the snowline stops at - we used to never get it, but the last two winters have changed all that. Actually hope we dont get snow and iced in like before, but cold, bright blue skies and some snow is great with me (not that I am fussy and unrealistic to think I can choose what mother nature dishes out!! )
  13. sleety rain then almost some snow about an hour ago here in North Brighton - skies have almost cleared and sun trying to shine
  14. I first thought rain and gales - then no gales - then saw lots of pink nearby on a model chart and thats the moment the word Snow popped up!! Now.....well, its raining, doesnt feel that cold, I will be able to tell if it changes as the gutters leak and the noise will stop if snow appears! and not much of a gusty gale either
  15. mmmm was convinced that Brighton would get sleet at the most - now wondering if I should move the car to a spot where it could be moved if snow settles
  16. Raining steadily here, winds are not high and no gusts like the other night, not feeling that cold Maybe the wind is picking up a bit
  17. METO downgraded gales and no snow? http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/se/se_forecast_warnings.html infact there are no warnings for snow anywhere? - at the moment
  18. correction something wrong with my postcode on netweather forecast - just put in Brighton and Hove and it shows sleet and 1degree! No wonder my finger is not feeling on the pulse of whats going on - nevermind the experts having trouble Oh dear - that might be a dilemma, either grounded by the weather or a choppy ride, maybe.....hopefully you can hazard a better guess tomorrow
  19. Hi Marie & Yamkin Last nights howling was fairly prolonged and a wee bit scary at 1.30am! The temps for Brighton are 12degrees midnight Thursday and no lower than 4 friday day(at the moment) - I presume the forecase wont be clear for another 24hrs, but I have a feeling it will be wild again too!
  20. I was just about to try and sleep but I think you might be right, the gusts dont seem to be abating for long and they are strong still, all the doors are rattling! and this isnt as strong as the winds predicted, possibly, for Thursday/Friday,
  21. completely wild here in North Brighton on top of a hill with the wind coming up from the sea! Calmed down for a bit about half an hour a go but the gusts seem to be picking up momentum again now, worst was between 11 and 12 I would say. Not easy to sleep with the bedroom window facing the tree lined street!
  22. METO warning for heavy snow turning to rain on Friday is now covering the whole of our area?? The temps say 7/8 ??
