  1. hi chris your description last night was fine problem is its hard to word it in an easy way heres the link http://weatherfaqs.org.uk/book/export/html/214 warning though its long and will take a while to digest best thing to do is look for what you need to know rather than read all of it hope that helps john

Thank you John and thank you again Chris. I think I will print it out and read it that way. Sometimes good old fashioned paper is far easier to learn from them an 8inch screen. Fingers crossed for me to finally start learning. Katie

  2. just went in the mod thread

its ok i am safely back now Posted Image

It really is bad over there. Everything I thought I was beginning to understand, I completely lost track of now.

Will try again in summer minus the MAD thread confusion and learning from non biast and balanced posters, like yourself,

  3. Hi guys and Gals

just wanted to share my own personal thoughts for the day.

I have to say that after watching Battered Britain just now. I have stopped wishing for snow and in particular a prolonged cold spell. The further damage it could do for some of those worst hit areas, especially if flood waters froze could be truely devastating.

So I think it is time to put aside out love of cold and snow and think of those hit by this winters freak weather. Don't get me wrong I love cold and snow but........

Hope that gives some of you food for thought.

  4. Morning all. Had the most amazing frost this morning. Will report back on lowest temp later.

Think I might cross post this on the moaning thread to give some a wake up call.

  5. I know Marolw well and it's a lovely park there - I've had many a walk along the Thames at that spot, hopefully whatever happens now it won't be more rain - will make a great ice rink if it freezes though :-)

  6. Katie, btw, that post of yours on the 'MAD' thread that a few of the boys on there didn't answer for you properlyPosted ImagePosted Image The white dot is simply a computerised representation of a centre of pressure within a low pressure cell. Don't worry - there was a time when I would have asked exactly the same thing!Posted Image

Thank you Tamara, thankfully I never saw the replies, just noticed it vanished. I have been reading the MAD thread and here since 2010 and have finally got some time on my hands to start learning. But it's really hard to know where to start and I have chosen the most confusing time to start, but I must say after reading the MAD thread for 4 winters and 1 complete summer, it's more predictable the on the MAD thread then the models and weather put together. In fact if it wasn't for the entertainment value of the MAD thread I would of got to grips with the models long ago.

Am I safe asking my stupid questions here lol.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

  7. Not great at reading the models and nothing scientific or meteorological here but,I really feel this is a classic case of all models dropping the idea of cold to pick it up again 3 or 4 days later. The only factor I can use with this statement is experience of reading and learning all the dramas unfold over the years on here and fantastic posts from far more experienced posters. It's already starting to look a bit better for coldies this morning so let's see what today brings. As I say just my opinionBut if I'm wrong then no real problem there's always feb

    My thoughts exactly. Katie

I have to ask this. After all these years reading the thread I am trying to actually understand the models. How do you know the cold pool is arriving.

    Feeling very stupid now.

  9. Hi Mark,

    How are you?

5 Headington (Ox) (MARK NEAL) v. High Wycombe (Bucks) (KATIE COURT) 6.4

I thought it would be a close run thing between you and Katie, possibly her elevation, just swung it for her.

No, I'd make sure alphabetically, you'd have some opponents in a Group Phase (Champions League style) scenario, if members are interested, next winter!

    Regards,

    Tom.

Hi guys it was definitely an elevation thing. I am about 220m asl there was barely anything laying in Wycombe town centre. In fact we drove to Thame yesterday and there really was nothing. But all the holls around were covered and when we drove up through Chinnor. The was still snow on Chinnor Hill Road It was actually quite Bizzare.
