Which is the most reliable model please?
Not sure, but I think it's whichever ones says what you want to happen?

I've been following this thread since 2010 when I got sucked into the euphoria of that year's cold snap - I love a bit of snow, me. I wanted to see what the experts said and fed off the enthusiasm in here. It was glorious. Now, I know nothing, NOTHING about the charts (much to my disgust) but every year I come back in December to see what the prospects are.....
Is it my imagination, or have I seen charts and enthusiasm simillar to what were seeing now a good couple of times in the last ten tears only to see them collapse to mediocrity within the 120 hour time frame - sometimes even less.
Is there something different about these charts this year or is there still a chance everything will evaporate into sludge at short notice? I ask because I ramp all this up to my wife all the time and then when it doesn't happen she blames me personally and calls me an idiot.
Mods - this is slightly connected to models so bear with me

South Wirral, North East Wales & parts of Cheshire getting pummeled now.
Nice streamer for you @cheshire snow
Gave a good burst over Mold and left a cm - enough to turn everything white for now anyway. Hoping the NI stuff makes it over.

Raining hard in Mold in the Clwydians. Hoping the height will lead to snowier stuff by the morning. No way it’s going to stop the commute to Birkenhead.

Apart from the obvious like the beacons etc has anyone got any lying snow??
About an inch here in Mold. Nothing too exciting.

Just started snowing here in Mold, NE Wales. At 125m, about 10 miles from the coast. Light, but at least it's here now.
-
Light snow for about 30 mins in NE Wales. Will take about 20 years to get above show level at this rate though

For anyone in North Wales too lazy to get in their car and drive.......

I live 2 miles away from where that video was shot - seriously, don't bother driving to see it, it was barely a coating. The mountains may have looked very white but there was a cm at most and it was very short lived. If you wet yourself with excitement that, then I envy you.

Snow here now in Mold, NE Wales. Rain just turned about 10 minutes ago. Not sticking yet but proper big, albeit wet, flakes coming down fast. 125m asl.

Oh BTW the GFS control gets even better. I'd defy anyone to draw a better chart than that. Quite possibly the most stunning retrograde/reverse zonal flow I've ever seen.......ever
I know I've got a post count of 'bugger all' but I've been following the winter threads for a few years and have never seen a chart that looks like that.
So why's it so good for cold?
Is it because the cold has been drawn from the East for so long? The amount of 'blue' penetrating into the Atlantic? The wind strength?
It all looks a bit flat and I thought flat was bad.
genuine questions - just a bit ignorant.

Well, the snow finally stopped at last in Mold. The main roads in and around town are clear but only one lane where the plough has cleared it, the snow piled high everywhere. No-one can walk on the pavements, everyone's walking on the road.I dug our road out yesterday as you can see in the attached pic. My sister wanted to come up from Birkenhead, but I told her she;d have to park in McDonalds, 3/4 mile away so she didn't bother.

Still snowing in Mold in N E Wales. Up to 47cm now on level ground, well, the garden table anyway. Very wierd and sure I won't see it again in my lifetime.

Mold in NE Wales this morning. My jaw hit the floor. Not quite sure of the depth. We went past a foot at midnight

Here's the Mold pics

Snow in garden this morning.....
We're pretty much the same down in Mold, Hywel.
I was literally flabbergasted when I looked outside this morning. I've never seen anything like it. It's like I just woke up in Canada. I don't think the market will be on.
-
How deep is that now Hywel? 40cm+?

Just posted this photo of my garden table in Mold, NE Wales, 125m as lin the NW England thread as a wind-up. This was about an hour ago. That's the last 2cm of a 30cm ruler just sticking up over the top of the snow

Just as a gloat, heres a pic of my garden table in Mold, NE Wales, 125m asl. That's the last 2 cm of a 30cm ruler just sticking out of the top.

Some pics from Mold, NE Wales. About 25cm lying snow at the moment. A lot of trees down and most roads not worth trying. Had to walk to Tesco's
-
How have you guys got that much snow? Especially in Buckley and Mold? Can't believe it!
13 hours of heavy snow probably did it.
-
Large branch down across our lane and you're not seeing things, those are sheep.
Are you on the Padeswood side? The intensity has dropped a bit now - are you the same?
-
Nice!
Post that in the NW thread - some angry people in there (but some happy ones too)
Wish I was at home (mums) in Hope!
Just did - no bites yet!!!!

Just measured 17cm lying snow in Mold, NE Wales. Can't get out of my drive. This is at 125m asl. It's at 2010 levels at the moment. All the schools shut.
