I used to live in Halstead 15 years ago, now I live just outside Sevenoaks. You can see actually see the snowline when driving up Star Hill to Knockholt / Halstead. The extra 250 feet makes a huge snow difference in marginal situations.
I've seen it. I drove around the M25 in Jan 2011, and the snow line was around 100m. You could see the transition up the hill, with the snow settling on the top of some trees, but not at the bottom. Whether it is global warming or just our warped views of winters past, I wanted to give myself the best chance of seeing some snow.

According to my Netatmo, Temp -0.2c with DP at 0.0c

You lived a charmed life at your location in the SE
at heights & slightly rural is worth 1c below most
we are moving this summer for one more rental before buying another house in kent
its got to be istead rise / meopham / vigo !
latest radar return consolidates just a slight weakened but importantly the continued protracted track is SSW...
temp here at sea level est 1c
I chose it! I love snow, and when we decided to move to Kent, I looked for height. 1 or 2c doesn't make a difference in the Summer, but can make all the difference in the Winter. In December 2010, we had a monster snowfall, when about 12 miles (as the crow flies) in Central London there was nothing.
Hoping for a small covering tonight.

Now below zero. -0.1c
-
Looking good to clip London and SE.
Surprised by the sudden drop in temp, it has been up at 4.9c today here, but now at 0.4c and falling quickly.
-
Looking a bit sleety in the CCTV, but it's been like that most of the day. High of the day 3.3c, lowest 0.6c. Currently sat at 2.7c.

Halstead, Kent (which is tiny) is close to Knockholt which is anywhere between 160-200m asl. In 2010, we had stupid amounts of snow, 50-70cm, whereas the City of London had rain, and it's only about 15 miles as the crow flies.

Head to TN14 7HQ - the snow is settling readily up here. Once you get to J4 of the M25, which is slightly elevated, it is all up hill from there!
-
Snowing quite well up here. Road is fully covered after about 1 hour of snow.
Temperature has crept up to 0.9c from 0.6c, but doesn't seem to have turned the snow to sleet/rain. Looking forward to a few more hours of this. -
Dropped to 1.2c, everything white. surprised to hear that there is rain in chipstead as it doesn't appear marginal
-
Thick heavy snow here. 1.6c, but settling everywhwre. the best snow is unexpected
-
Met office now issued warnings for most of the South east. -1.0c here
-
Snowing up here on The Downs, temp now 0.4c
-
According to my CCTV cameras there appears to be sleet falling. 1.6c and hasn't been above 2.0c all day. Miserable, grey and drizzly all day.
-
Incessant rain all day, up to 10mm now. We had an enormous clap of thunder about 12, I checked the lightning radars and it appears to be the only strike in the uk today! Bizarre.
Cabbie took me to orpington station in the deluge. The station is flooded, but cabbie said that the weather was beautiful around heathrow.
-
It got down to 2.0c before the rain arrived, now up to 3.5c so no hill snow
-
Not convinced we will even get any wet snow tomorrow, but we are hopefully in the right place to get it if there is any...Currently 5.0c, but dropping quite quickly
-
Darent flood warning is now red. Not surprised, given the torrential rain. I think it could be a rough night.
-
Maidstone due to flood again through Friday and the Darent expected to flood overnight with 40mm more expected. I think today's rain may be the straw that breaks the camel's back in our area. Will it ever stop?

2.5c now.....getting there.

Another 0.2c gone....Now 2.7c. It's like pulling teeth. Constant light rain, no sign of sleet or wet snow yet, but the rain is "thick"
