  1. Snow report! We've got a very slight covering of snow here this morning (bona fide snow this time, not hail), no more than 1mm, but still counts as lying snow in my book. One of the showers in the night must have made its way here. Temp -1.9c currently.
  2. Well I've just got my first air frost of this current "cold spell", temp finally reached 0.0c a few minutes ago before rising again. Looking forward to some interesting weather next week.
  3. Just been a few hail showers this morning, and some rain too. The hail settled this morning when the dewpoint was sub-zero. Still has been interesting that there have been a lot of showers which goes to show that if the upper conditions were right then a N-Westerly could bring some decent snow here, just the wrong side of marginal at the moment. A "Cardigan Bay streamer" seems to set up in WNW / straight W flow that brings a series of showers over mid-Wales. Temp 4.5c currently, dp 0.6c.
  4. Well Scotland may be getting the most interesting (/dangerous) weather today but it's still pretty wild out there down here with lots of wind and rain about. Cold front should be moving through here in the next hour or so, expect temps to drop quickly behind that. Still a good possibility of wintry weather in N Wales tomorrow and maybe a bit further south, the 528 dam line has been slightly further south over the last couple of GFS runs, and sub -5 uppers as well, so if there is precipitation there is a fair chance of snow especially over hills. The NW flow may produce a few showers but hard to tell if they will come far inland as it is fairly weak. The following few days remain cold with more possibility of hail/sleetiness Sunday into Monday, and the unsettled weather continues for the forseeable future - for example the storm progged on the 06z GFS at T177 would be pretty serious for much of Wales: ECM shows a similar storm but slightly later at T192 and has a bif storm for the north at T240. All of this is too far out for it to be forecast with any certainty (expect this to downgrade and/or change track in coming runs) but it gives a flavour that the outlook is unsettled, perhaps slightly warmer after the next few days,
  5. If that chart were to verify then there would be a chance of wintry weather, similar to the last couple of days but with slightly colder uppers meaning that there may be more chance of any precipitation being snow instead of hail (for example). Hard to predict whether there would be much precip though, I'd guess a few showers on the coasts (= warmer so less chance of snow) but not getting so far inland, but as I said before hard to predict. Something to keep an eye on but once again its an extremely marginal setup for snow in Wales and even a slight downgrade would wipe any chance of snow. A small upgrade however could bring many of us our first snow of the season.
  6. Just been a few hail showers here today. There was a dusting of white this morning on hills above about 450m but on trekking up this was revealed as a couple of cm of soft hail lying. Felt a bit nippy up there in the wind though! The uppers never really got cold enough in this part of the world hence hail instead of snow. I suspect the sleet I reported last night was probably hail, the dangers of making observations in the dark!
  7. Seems to be a steady stream of showers forming over Cardigan bay and heading inland over Mid Wales. Still wintry here but sleet/hail mix rather than snow proper, hopefully will improve as the night goes on. I would expect settled snow up in the Cambrian hills though. Current temp 3.2c, dp 0.3c.
  8. Showers are coming in much snowier now, prob about 50-50 I think it's tricky in the dark as you can only see the snowy bits and not the rainy bits. Amount of pink (snowfall) on the NW radar is still increasing across Mid & North Wales. Now if only the DP would drop, 1.5c currently, air temp 3.8c.
  9. Sleet shower here at the moment - still about 80% rain to 20% snow & ice though. Temp is 4.0c & dp 1.7c so no chance of anything sticking even if it was more snowy. The night is yet young though... NW radar shows increasing amounts of pink (snow) over Snowdonia so maybe will make its way down here later.
  10. NW radar shows sleet over here (and most of the north half of Powys) at the moment but no sign of any precip that I can see. Will keep an eye out though!
  11. I'll keep an eye out to the north then! I'm surprised though as it's still pretty warm here and not too far from Newtown. Cambrian tops to the west of me (500-600m asl) are obscured in some white looking cloud that may or may not be snow.
  12. Heavy rain & hail here at the moment, with some proper squally gusts. Hoping to get something wintry tomorrow but at least the weather is interesting in the meantime. Snowdon cams looking good. Edit: Think that must've been a weak cold front moving down, precip was heavy & temp. has dropped over 2c in the last 25mins or so, 3.9c here now, dp 1.8.
  13. -2.0c here now, Wales seems to be frostier than many places so far this autumn.
  14. -1.6c here at the moment, but has been the same for about an hour now, so it may be that the expected cloud cover is beginning to arrive. Completely still, so if he sky were to stay clear it would get really pretty cold but sadly that isn't forecast.
  15. Well it's just 2.0c here at the moment so fairly cold, but in terms of proper, potentially snowy cold, it's lost somewhere over greenland and the models don't want to send it down in this direction. Anyone want to head up there with a map and show it the way to here?
  16. 62.4mm here so far this month - more or less average I think (only been here a few months though).
  17. Max of 15.1c here today - very mild but not the super mild that some have been getting. It's a very mild night for the time of year as well, 9.9c here currently.
  18. Quite a wet day across Wales today. We've only 10mm so far today here but much more on the way looking at the radar, and some areas have had some reasonable accumulations. It's 9 rain days out of 11 here for November so far.
  19. Seems like the whole of Wales was pretty cold last night. Got down to -5.1c at 5.35am last night but then some cloud cover came over so not as cold as further north and/or west. Tried to take some pics this morning but camera batteries died. Will make sure I'm better prepared next time! 9.2c here at the moment - today's max so far. Has been pretty cool through the daytime though, felt a lot more wintry than of late. Cosy indoors!
  20. Lol I was typing that before I saw OON's post, wasn't meant to be a "I'm colder than you" post. Shame it's only cold here under high pressure, not so much when there's possible snow around.
  21. Min here was -5.1c at 5.35am. Cloud has arrived in the last couple of hours though, about 3/4 cloud cover now and temp rising rapidly, currently -0.5c.
  22. If it stays cold through the night I'll try and take some nice wintry pictures in the morning. -3.1c here now, already colder than last night.
  23. -2.3c here now. Just been outside and the water butt is frozen over and there's a satisfying crunch to the grass. IF no cloud cover comes then -5 or maybe even -6 or lower looks likely by dawn (it was about 2.0c at this time yesterday evening and eventual min was -3.0c).
  24. 1.1c here currently, max was 10.8c earlier. It's 3-4c colder than it was at this time yesterday eve, so if the skies stay clear then I'm expecting a low of approx -5.0c around dawn. Anyone know if there's any cloud expected? Met/beeb seems to have some reaching here around dawn, so may get here in time to stop proper cold minima.
