What inspired you to become a meteorologist :?:

Big storm last night, Like ste said, Lots of hail sleet rain and very high winds.
Been nice today though sun blue skyes and the occasional bit of cirrus and other high clouds about.

Very nice day here to, That area of rain to the south looks fairly heavy, So once it arrives over the south it looks like you will get a hell of a soaking.

Yes a very different feel to things today, Feels a lot like autmn but in a good way, Nice and sunny with cloudless skys and a very fresh feel.
As I have said in anouther thread, It is amazing the transition from 38 degrees celcius to autmn and snowfalls on high levels all in the space of 6 weeks.
But as WF also said this does not mean we are in for a really cold snowy winter as of right now, This is the way autmn is one day can be cold and sunny wheras the next can be very warm and sunny and one day can be heavy rain with floodings and tornadoes waterspouts etc etc, Whereas the next day can be like today, Sunny and dry.
That is the typical autmn pattern.

Lo, A,G Welcome to the forums, There has been some tornadoes reported from this front.
Looks like it did indeed intinsify as it moved south.
the rainfall where I live up here in the north west has not been that intense, Except for some which I observed this morning, Visibillity turned very low as a result.

There is signs of a front nearby, By looking out of my window that is.
But theres no rain or high winds.

BIG Showers here all day.
The ground and everything starts steaming off in to thermals when they pass and the sun comes back out, Not something I see everyday.
Maybee I'll see a storm before the days out :!: :o

Not sure what the exact temperature is, I would say that its about 70.F
I'd hoped for a nice day for the last day of august, Enjoy the day if its as nice where you are as it is where I am, These are the last proper day's of summer now over these next few weeks.
Make the most of them.

Well January And February are the coldest months I would say, I think you should see frosts by then this year.
If it is indeed as cold as it is looking like it is going to be, But dont get you're hopes up, Scientific evidence is all good but you don't need it to tell you that the moon is there or not there and the reasons why when it is cloudy.
Not relevant to what we are talking about but I'm just using that as an example.
This winter is looking good in theory, But Theory Is only theory and can be wrong.
As I said earlier I'm not trying to be a party pooper I just Don't want to contribute to a lot of heartache later because of premature optimism.

Looks like its been raining here to.
I don't want to seem like the party pooper here people, But I'm afraid that for most of you frost lovers, That the ground and surrounding air is still to warm for any frosts yet.
Sorry.
You will see frosts and snow sooner or later though, Don't you worry youreselves about it.

How high are the hills that its on, As it feels very warm where I am today.
I think we might see an unusual season, Autmn, Of cold and frosty and possibly snowy nights followed by very warm days.
You know, Like in the deserts.
By that I do mean the vast expanses of sand in hot reigions and not chocolate pudding.

Theres been a couple of big cumulus around here today.
Even a cumilonimbus with an anvil on it to my south before.

Aggreed, I have had a couple of showers from these cumulus today.
I reckon that many people will probably hear a crack or two of thunder today.

Yup, Not so warm out at the moment, Currently 10 degrees celcius.
However that does not really mean autmn is with us just yet, So don't be getting you're hopes up.
There are many signs of autmn now, Leaves changing color, Light spectrum from the sun changing - shifting slightly, Days are much shorter.
I think there will be some more warm spells through september and october, But there will also be cooler periods aswell, Yes there will be frosts by night also.

Nice morning here, A few cumulus around, However there are some dark clouds around coming in over me now, Could be a heavy shower or 2 soon.
Lets hope for a thunderstorm :!:

Same here, Plus I've noticed that all the birds are circling in thermals again like this morning before the storms moved in.
