  1. First shower has reached the Isle of Wight. Very large drops.
  2. Well looking east towards your way at dusk, it was black as hell. Quite a sight..
  3. Cold rain here in the west of the Isle of Wight. Precipitation not heavy enough for cooling, looks like we are just on the edge of it.
  4. Three miles east of Needles, 1km from coast. Reasonably windy, but not silly. Rainfall not leading to any issues either, actually on the light side so far.
  5. No, just the wood burner running on old dead elm. Discovered last year we can almost survive on this and save a fortune on heating oil.
  6. Ironic really, next to it is the surviving felled cooker from 1987. It survived the fall and kept growing laid over. It now therefore records the wind direction that incredible night and is as productive as ever. Must say though, 87 (& 1990) were in different leagues to tonight.
  7. My parents are booked on a cruise on the Marco Polo to Norway on Sunday. So the ship seems to have had just the one day turnaround schedule to meet tomorrow at Tilbury.
  8. Worst this winter. Howling like a banshee here on SW coast of the IOW. Awesome!
  9. Short, but intense hail shower here just after 9am. More lining up in the Channel.
  10. Not liking the look of what's developing in the Channel right now. Just what we need after this afternoon/evening rainfall event.
  11. Hammering down here on IOW. Looks like the worst is going to leave here towards E. Hants now though.
  12. Plenty around to be sure, I've been down the shore in Sudmoor Bay (between Brook & Chilton Chine) several times since Christmas and hauled back a good load. It was lost off the deck of an Italian owned cargo ship off Brittany during stormy seas on 13/14th December. Seems to be mostly large planks of pine & American ash.
  13. Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight this morning. This guy is keen, on the edge of the drop off the sea wall into the tide.
  14. Hi Egret, yes I sent most of Xmas clearing up after floods and opening up the ditch next to the house to encourage better drainage. It's sobering to see all that precipitation in linear formation lining up to make landfall this morning. This is exactly what happened on the night of 23 Dec. Fingers crossed.
  15. Squall line seeming to be passing through west Wight right now. Uplift in winds and precipitation. No flooding this time round.
  16. Wonderful guy ( Rob) just dropped me in a couple of dozen sandbags. Just before the heavens opened again. Awesome weather.
  17. Watching them also, poor souls. My kitchen flooded tonight, but I would not swap places. The BA in front ( from Glasgow) aborted landing very late and the following Easyjet on final approach (from Nice) had to then abort also. Both seem to be heading NNW on different headings now. What a nightmare for the passengers & crew.
  18. Thanks man. First time in the 11 years that I've lived here that water was high enough to get in. Not got a rain gauge, but there must be some pretty serious totals building up. I think it was the squall front that run across the Island around 7 or 8 pm that caused the issue. Seems to have stabalised now as it just 'raining hard'. Sandbags still not here though, I think now I would prefer a snow event please!
