Coventry Lee

It has picked up again here in north east coventry. There is a definite thaw on the trees though. I'm hoping that Hinckley will remain the right side of marginal even if Coventry can't! This East/West Mids split is awkward for those of us close to the border! Edit: As I type the snowfall has slowed dramatically.

Heavy snow on the north east side of Coventry. A few hours of this would leave quite a covering.

Snow in Coalville and rain in Nuneaton shows just how fine the margins can be. That's what? 15 miles? That said if we are looking at a straightforward east/west split then snow in Coalville is good news for many of us. Indeed so is this: it is now snowing between Nuneaton and Bedworth.

I'm travelling through Nuneaton at the moment and as far as I can and something is hitting the windscreen. It looks wet rather than white. And the puddles confirm it; we have......rain.

A nice dusting in Hinckley this morning. I'm in two minds about what I'd like to see later on; on the one hand I adore cold and snow, on the other anything too heavy could set me back at work.

Can I ask why some are labelling the latest model runs 'fantastic'? The nw ten day forecast suggests that, in my area at least, temperatures will climb to 5-6c for the weekend. What am I not understanding?

Nothing yet here in Hinckley (ignore the name). Tomorrow might be fun for me. I have a meeting in Bedworth first thing, back in the office in Coventry until early afternoon, and possibly a trip to Warwick to end the day. All on public transport!

Can I ask why these models (as I understand them) are showing high temperatures for this weekend, but the BBC five day forecast is telling me that the maximum temperature here in Coventry is set to be 19c with an accompaniment of rain? Is the Met Office typically cautious in issuing forecasts? I usually find it to be fairly accurate as a casual observer. Am I missing something?

I agree. To my untrained eye it looks as though the ppn is beginning to move SSW, and the amount there is in the North Sea would suggest that it's a bit early for people to be giving in just yet.

It has been snowing lightly in Earl Shilton for about ten minutes now.

Nothing in Earl Shilton yet. As nice as it would be to wake up to snow tomorrow morning I'm still happy enough with what we had on Saturday. Anything extra will be a bonus now.

This has been a brilliant event for south west Leicestershire, far exceeding my expectations. I can't remember the last time I saw such sustained snowfall here.

Funnily enough I'm thinking of getting some food in tonight myself. I'm hoping there is something left tomorrow, Burbage Common will be a lovely walk if there is snow lying. I'm also quite keen to catch a glimpse of a Muntjac and the snow may make it easier to do so!

I plan to pop out a little later and have a proper look. It's hard to tell from up here really, but I agree, it looks to be about 2cm deep at most. It has begun to fall a little more heavily again now and the radar keeps it going for a while yet.

I certainly don't feel let down. It's nice to have any snow and this is easily the best I've seen this winter. Here's how it looks in my car park in Earl Shilton: Not spectacular by any means, but I'd estimate (and it is only an estimate) a couple of centimetres . The snow at the moment is a fair bit lighter than it has been for a while.

It has picked up once again here in Earl Shilton. This really is lovely stuff. It's a shame the snow might not be about tomorrow really, it would make for a beautiful walk down to the local woods.

I was doing some shopping in Earl Shilton about twenty minutes ago and we briefly had sleet. As far as I can tell looking out of my window (I have a view of an unlit car park) it looks as though it's all rain now. It felt a bit colder than the temperature suggests outside.

The world's tiniest flakes are falling very slowly in Earl Shilton, Andy. I'll be interested to see if Coventry has had any when I get there. This would have been a bonus anyway so I'm not too disappointed. No doubt we will be hit at some point, it's very early in the season yet. Now I can look forward to a lovely cold weekend!

I posted a little and lurked a lot during last winter and like beccaboo above I've begun lurking again over the past couple of weeks. I have to say I really enjoy reading the posts on this forum. I'm not terribly knowledgeable about the weather myself but I do find myself picking things up and learning from the contributions of others. This time last year I was at university in Coventry and was desperate for a bit (well, a lot!) of snow. I'm excited at the prospect this year but now I've started work there's a part of me that dreads what may be to come! On Friday morning I'll be travelling from Earl Shilton to Leicester along he A47, followed by Leicester to Coventry on the M69 (learning to drive would be an excellent idea). If some of the posts on here are to be believed it could be a painful journey! At least some nice white views over the Leicestershire and North Warwickshire countryside may act to dull the pain a little.
