Yes, remeber the 80`s weather well and peeling off the net curtains from the iced window inside and getting a rollocking for doing it, frozen flanel. one fire to heat the house was in living room, then later a portable fire that we had to feel up with very smelly (but nice in odd way) liquid that was on landing to try heat 3 bedrooms .
Those were the days eh. bed was warm but carpet near frozen.
Lat is right, the cling film type stuff is awesome, once you put it on go over with hair dryer to stretch out , it sticks to side of frames , once hair dried it gets the creases out and tightens up.
BBC say rain, yet Metcheck has dumping on us for tonight and tomorrow.

BBC downgraded potential snow for Frome area, just rain Saturday and Monday according to them
... that i believe it of course as the weather around here can change a lot.)
Link i pasted not showing.
Is showing now but London not Frome.

Ian F, even called this called spell for mid jan back last year and i`m sure i remember him saying so early December to somebody.
Got to give him and Met office credit where credit due they haven`t been rushing in to predictions like many here inc myself they seem to have called quite a lot right in recent times.
One of the funniest posts iv`e seen in a long time. It is funny how they always use the m4 corrider and low and behold it can snow on its northern side and rain on south , or snow on south and dry on north.
-
Twister is right, we had a dumping here in Frome (somerset)at the start of November.
-
ifc Dude, Metcheck.

Twister, I know the feeling, you might be surprised i reckon you could get 5cm at least so a day or two of fun before it melts and at least it falls at the weekend. Some positives there.
I have feeling February might be a good month for us, just hunch nothing more.
Good luck , what part of devon as large variances there two as in my area of somerset, if you are East devon then more chance.

WOW!!! was looking at 3 weather websites and two of them changed there headline and warings at the same time yet different companies.
Anyway take a look at the warning, Mendip,Cotswolds (i`m on edge of these)marlborough in particular but 10cm widely southern Britain, does that mean the areas i mentioned could get more when they say particuarly or just higher chance of 10cm? the areas in the zone are Trwobridge, Frome, warminster, Devices,Westbury and few others.See warning below:

Weather Watch For Ice & Snow
A period of much colder weather is expected across the UK this weekend with temperatures at or below zero for many areas.
Ice on roads will become hazardous over the next 24 hours as a band of rain pushes East into Western and Central England and Wales. Rain also across Eastern areas will freeze overnight leading to icy patches on untreated roads.
A band of Rain, sleet and snow will push into Central and Southern England during Saturday. It is likely that temperatures will be cold enough to allow for accumulations, especially across an area around the Cotswolds, Mendip and Marlborough Hills. However, all areas South of Birmingham should prepare for up to 10cm of snow during Saturday and overnight into Sunday.

Weird, Thought i`d posted earlier but not showing?
Just mentioned that snow even will be small and that ecm charts look better for predicting snow than gfs. Goes back to what i said earlier in the week about not getting hopes up to high for cold as it can all change quickly as happened in December and has happened again now with what GFS showed before.
P.S looks like flood risk returns for next 1.5 weeks to. So be prepared just in case as waters tables remian topped out, lots of roads still have water run off where i live from the fields.
-
Twister, you may het some snow over the latter part of the weekend but to much hype saying worst snow for decades, it wont happen from this cold spell down where you are so no worries.
-
Looks like atlantic will be roaring back in bringing renewed risk of flood with some vigoris atlantic lows coming in which may yet again slow up a bit over the uk. Toughts out to already flood hit areas.
-
Meant to on the symbols forecast on website. Yet charts paint a different picture bit of course as we all know saturday is long way off and lots can change in that time. Hope we do get snow though aftet decembers letdown.
-
I havent seen any snow forecast, what did points west forecast say? Bbc only have sleet sat night then dry sunday.
-
The low seems a little more intense on more recent runs that pulls in cold air first to the north then sinking south.
Looks like South could get some of the W.S
maybe west getting some deent falls as mild battles cold, maybe somerset and wilts see some good falls.
Much can change though so fingers crossed.
I just hope not to much rain falls on already flooded areas, thats the first thought before any fun snow.
-
This is exactly what i was on about yesterday. Charts said cold, but i said don`t get to excited as it could all change as december proved. Atlantic just seems very strong this year and always winning out. There will be brief cold spell sat-Mon but look like Atlantic will win out longer term.
Hope i`m wrong though.
-
Iceberg, very well said. I just said the same over on the cold weather thread. I said wait until Thursday to see what will happen. To early to get excited, but nice charts though :-)
Bristol Baggie, Could agree more with your statement"80's THE LAST DECADE OF SNOW"
-
People, Saturday and beyond are way way off in weather terms and anything could happen to stop the cold from happening.Dont get me wrong i love snow and can`t get enough of it but to get so excited at this stage is premature, look what happened in december and was promised right from Novmber. View it this way and you won`t get let down.
Just wait until Thursday to start getting excited.
AIMHO of course but been there to many times myself before, only to be disappointed.

Hi all,had very heavey rain here in frome but stopped about 2hrs ago. Rained right through night and heavy to. More on the way. Happy christmas and especially to any flood hit people.hoe the new year brings better weather for you all.
-
Been raining all day here in Frome although much of it was just light and drizzly at time. Seems heavier this eve though.
-
Been raining heavy for last 2 hrs here in Frome but also through the night with some heavier bursts to. Not sure on totals we have, but its not as much as people in Dorset thank goodness. I feel its not over yet with another band forming off the Cornish coast that looks heavy to, whether or not that makes it i`m not sure.
Saturday looks a washout to.

The mendips and some surrounding areas are prone to what Ian mentioned earlier.
Cley hill area is another one to.
-
The vortex looks to be on the ropes by this point
The question is how do we shift those heights over Spain/Italy/N Africa? They can be very hard to shift once they're evident.
Excellent Q, most of the time its the Azores high or Euro high that are such awkward ones to shift.
-
Excellent question, although yes in 2010 we did but the majority of the time we always miss these for some odd reason as you say. It`s as if there is an invisible wall just off the coast of Ireland that goes right up to the stratosphere directing cold out to the Atlantic. The other key point as you mentioned. Why don`t we get the serious cold that the mid Atlantic gets, i thought cold air travelles better over land than sea yet deep cold only reaches Northern scotland and warms the further south it comes. Can`t be Gulf Stream as mid Atlantic also hugely affected by the G.S.?? ANy Experts enlighten us to why? Many Thanks.
P.S, the same happens to when North sea gets blast and often misses us and goes direct to Germany yet over there the cold air does sink all the way down there land.

Morning Ian and all,
Thanks for the continued warning updates.
Heart goes out to the people already hit and whats to come. This next prolonged spell of wet weather might produce than the recent floods a few weeks ago in some parts , not whats needed that's for sure.
Difficult to see where the unsettled weather ends at the moment with it to last up at least until Christmas period and beyond.

Not sure what totals we have had here in Frome but we had a continued deluge this afternoon. Torrential rain and when i checked the radar there were 2 bands of bright blue echos that passed over us. Will be interesting to see the wettest place today but hope the recent flood victims didn`t get to much.
