Met Office has updated the amber wind warning for SE England - it is to be lifted earlier. Is this because the Low pressure is further south than expected and the strongest winds are now also further south. Wind gusts have calmed a bit here as the centre gets closer.

I think we are reaching peak wind gusts here in Eastbourne...the power flickered a few moments ago...really rattling and banging the roof... judging by the low pressure centre it does seem a little more south then originally forecast / modelled...some places obviously not getting strong winds due to the calmer centre area?

I live in Eastbourne just two blocks in from the pier / seafront and have been concerned about this since Sunday - I live in a top floor flat with a slate roof which is at risk. Slept through the 1987 Great Storm but got evacuated from school during the Burns Day Storm of 1990 - our class watched the workmen's trailer slowly flip across the playground. I hope that everyone stays safe along the south west, southern and south east coasts as this is going to be pretty extreme and is probably the windiest for quite a while...we had one storm with 75mph gusts in the past decade, but this is supposed to be a little higher and for much longer. If the higher and stronger gusts are correct then the Channel Islands and Northern France are in for a pretty worrying night. Don't even mention the rainfall amounts on already saturated ground

A wonderful line of Cumulus Congestus in the English Channel as seen now from Eastbourne with pink tops at sunset - a whole line of them developing which looks good for later. I think its all starting to develop.

Can see the developing cell north of Heathrow from Eastbourne...plenty of IC lightning in the cloud...brilliant

Last night was good for Eastbourne but it took a while to arrive - lots of IC ligthning - quite bright but the thunderstorm was elevated so thunder was a bit subdued...there were two cells I think and it was quite active out at sea but dropped in activity as it got closer...we had gusty winds and then heavy rain which was very welcome. Plenty of leaves and roof moss accumulating on the ground near drains from the run off. Pretty much all gone early this morning - we had some low level crud which had gone by 8am only to be replaced with Cirrus outflow. Looks like thundery rain is heading our way now so will be interesting to see how this interacts with our landmass later as temps rise.

Judging by the radar / detectors Selsey could be a good vantage point for over the sea lightning watch...hoping for more later here but touch and go at the moment or a long wait

Very large downpour here but no lightning yet, but I think a daughter cell has just passed over too - very large raindrops. Looks like a repeat of last night although it only lasted 10 minutes I did see plenty of distant flashes light up the clouds beautifully

Plenty of heavy / torrential rain here in Eastbourne - comes in waves. The odd rumble of thunder but no visible lightning. Some impressive cloud formations ahead of the rain - clouds were moving, rotating and contorting as the rain approached.

This gusty wind is insane - bonkers really...plenty of convective cloud but only a few drops and abating the heat a little - now cooler outside than inside!

I wonder if this will roll on and off as it travels north - cells dyeing out and then new ones popping up along the line of instability...its just all suddenly stopped

Very heavy rain now in Eastbourne - plenty of elevated thunder rolls from the IC lightning...it all just started from nothing - moderate rainfall and then lightning flashed

Very calm and quiet here...birds singing galore....seems humid...plenty of cloud bands in streets flowing up from the SSW...some Castellanus about too

Oh my that Le Harve cell I can see from my flat looking out to sea! Lightning up inside the cloud.
