Not cold down south, high humidity here for a while now. We seem to just have autumn all year round, might as well have an autumn thread up 24/7

And one song sums it all up!

Limited heat, bouts of rain forecast for UK and Ireland

High pressure sitting to the west of Ireland and the U.K. will keep extreme heat at bay and also direct Atlantic depressions between Iceland and the British Isles.

While the center of the depressions will often pass near or north of Scotland, rain will frequent much of the U.K. with the heaviest falls expected in Northern Ireland, western Scotland and northwest England.

"After a wet start to 2016, the unsettled weather will continue into the summer months, which means there could be enhanced localized flooding, especially in areas that are trying to still clean up from the floods in early winter," AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys said.

Frontal boundaries accompanying the depressions will sweep through the U.K. and Ireland, ending any warmth and resulting in seasonable temperatures for much of the summer months.

The frequency of these fronts and a flow off the Atlantic Ocean for much of the summer will result in no extended heat waves for the Isles.

These fronts will also bring occasional thunderstorms with downpours, lightning and small hail.

So far its gone this way:hi:

  3. Great place morzine and les gets for skiing. Found the après ski a little quiet though. Looking to book chamonix this year....any one been? Good or bad? Also any other recommendations of resorts around the Geneva airport area??

    Thanks guys

    Hello Wintry Wales

I'm off to Chamonix on January 17th, went there last year in late january, its a great place

to ski being around the Mont Blanc area, I personally dont do much skiing i'm more

of the sightseeing type but if your planning a visit you wont be dissapointed, I did a few trips from the resort, over the border into Italy to Courmayeur, over into Verbier in Switzerland, the transport in the resort is great too, the trains run the whole length of the valley from Argentiere

in the north to Servoz in the south, plenty of nightlife too and the prices are reasonable

Dont know about any skiing resorts around the Geneva area as i'm only flying in and

out of there so can't help you on that one.

    Cheers.

  4. I know we tend to criticize the media and especially the papers for getting forecasts wrong

but sometimes you have to give certain media outlets credit when they are near the mark.

This summer forecast from accuweather near the end of May is not far off the mark

    in my opinion so far.

  5. Hi all

Had a week in Chamonix last week, a plentiful supply of snow for the pistes,

was wearing a bit thin lower down though, obviously the town centre and shopping

areas had almost melted but on the outskirts it was still in much evidence.

Went over the border through the tunnel into Courmayeur, Italy and it was really

about the same there, plenty of good snow for the pistes but had partially melted

    around the town lower down.

Also went over to Verbier in Switzerland and again the ski areas were very good.

All in all i enjoyed my alps trip very much, it would of been even better if i could have seen

snow actually falling in the daytime instead of only once overnight!!

Ah well, not to worry, at least i actually saw some snow so far this year,

better than the ghastly winter where having in the UK.

A few pictures i took from my trip.

  6. http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/europe-winter-forecast-warmer/19131940

This forecast by Accuweather for Europe is not far out and the year before

they wasn't far out, they are saying later in the winter (which roughly starts now

the stormyness will kick in) well that bit seems a bit back to front with what we've been

having, and also they are hinting about maybe the stratospheric warming playing its hand

so i suppose there is still hope yet.

The dominant flow in this country is from the atlantic (all us weather enthusiasts know

this) so its no suprise we get winters so abysmal like this, where not alone, same latitude

roughly, coastal western canada dominated by the pacific dross and even coastal Alaska

can be rather mild and boring at times, when your near an ocean that can be the winter killer.

  7. Hello All

Just seen this topic and had to comment on a lovely time in

Austria last Febuary, only went for a week (no skiing just sightseeing)
but the area and experience were marvellous and exceeded my
    expectations

I stayed in Innsbruck at the Bierwirt hotel a short bus ride from the city
visited Seefeld an absolute must if your after quaint villagers and also
Igls and up the Hafelekar mountain which was awsome
Also made a little trip over into Germany to Mittenwald which again
was very nice and overall would easily go again

Weather was quite mild but obviously dropped at night

and only had one snow flurry through the week

Will be visiting Chamonix in the French Alps next january

If its half as good as Austria i'll be satisfied Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

  8. From the Sun

BRITAIN was basking in the hottest October day on record — with the mercury rising to an incredible 29.9°C on Saturday.

At lunchtime, Kent was hotter than Florida and Wales warmer than Ibiza as folks across the UK stripped off in beaches, parks and gardens.

And forecasters say the warm front which swept in from Turkey will continue the red-hot October until at least Tuesday.

    Warm front from Turkey?...hmmm

  9. I wonder what that deep L.P. shown in FI will develop into?

If the following days still keep looking to form such a feature then we could be in for an interesting weekend in a couple of weeks?( even if it just pulls lots of warm humid over us!)

Maybe the remnants of ex hurricane Emily ( which is trying to form currently in the tropical central atlantic ) if the gfs model verifies.
