Nothing like march 1st that was a severe wind chill and blizzard and much colder.
I concur with Atlantic, it was very much like March 1st here. Very fine snow interspersed with bigger flakes coming in almost horizontal with the strong wind.
But then March 1st was a Thursday so perhaps you are right that it was nothing like...

Eleven o'clock at night and there's a neighbour out clearing his drive, his neighbour's drive and the road outside his house. I don't have the heart to tell the idiot that it'll all be covered over when he gets up...
This street takes the biscuit, it must be the only one on the estate where an army of blokes armed with snow shovels and spades are on snow clearing watch. The December event was the best, there must have been 10 of the buggers out, all pointing and sorting out their own bit of road to clear.

Laying snow is not really melting at all, but snow is still struggling to settle on roads and pavements. Sun slowly losing its influence.

Where the suns sheltered, any snow is still there. But I'd like it to dry out before dark and then there's a better chance of anything falling leaving a covering.
Still not expecting to see any snow sticking but this all today is a huge bonus.
Glad Matt has copped it today.
Heavy now, it's beginning to lay on the paths, road and patio. I shouldn't worry too much Polar, it'll settle...

Sky to the east is now beginning to look like the shower clouds are merging. Not seeing any blue sky bar what is a couple of miles to my north east.

Done
We’ve just gone from that downgrade to a massive upgrade now. Ha ha. MO can’t make up their minds! ?
We are having big flurries now. Still not much settling though.
Happy days...
Good fun watching it though, even with it not settling much. Once the sun goes down we should get more accumulations.

Nice tone. What's your problem?
Never mind. Blocked. Can't be bothered with such people.
Another heavy shower. Possibly the heaviest so far. We're just having our heaviest of the afternoon, great fun. Can just see the blue sky poking through on the back end of it so almost through. They're really flying through these showers.

oh please, the way you're going on you would be snowed in by now.
Blimey, who has upset you? He's enjoying the snow racing through and in the north of the region the heavy showers are racing through. He had next to nothing in the last blast so he certainly deserves a bit of fun.

Matlock in Derbyshire. All our nice heavy snow symbols have just changed to light snow, apart from a few still showing in the early hours of tomorrow. An hour ago we were showing heavy snow from 4pm today until tomorrow breakfast time.
You're still showing under the amber warning though. I'd stick to watching the radar and lamppost watching.
You can add your location in the profile bit of the forum, it helps everyone to locate where the snow is or isn't.

very heavy snow here and the wind is blowing the snow all round it is settling how ever when the Sun comes out it melts again as for people writing off the snow event is because most of us won’t even get a covering personally I don’t think the yellow warning for some part of the West Midlands is warranted
But 5 miles down the road they might get snow that warrants a yellow. Do you want them to specify a different level for each and every house?
The yellow for the W. Midlands is towards unlikely so that fits in with the 'some folk not getting anything'.

Just to clear up any misconceptions regarding today's forecast ....Showers can frequently be confused for one another or mislabeled.... Snowfall and snow showers indicate that the difference is actually only in the duration of the events but when showers are foretasted it has been known wait for it!!!......for the sun to come into play from time to time
Aye, the sun is the bit between the showers. I'm quite enjoying the mini blizzard/bright sunshine mix at the moment.

Amber warning out for West Midlands Sat-Sun

Snow and Ice. Wonder what will make this truly requiring Amber?
Seems like they're pretty confident of it too rather than it just being an amber for the disruption.

Couple of photographs from '85-'86 in Acton Trussell, posted these the other day in the central regional group.
Considering the drifts are to the top of the hedges I'd estimate the depth was around five and a half foot. As I mentioned in the regional thread there were drifts not far from the church that were around 20'. Along one of the lanes we actually carved tunnels and rooms into the drifts, we were cut off for around a week so made the most of the impromptu school holiday.

Just out of interest has this half marathon been going over 30 years? It's just that I was discussing with another member some years ago in the historic thread on a topic (think it was titled 'Winters 85-86 in the West Midlands) about a run he did in March 1987 (different year to the title I know) and that there was heavy wet snow in a driving wind.
Think it was around mid 80s when it began.

We've been out most of the afternoon, noticed that Rugeley, Hednesford and Cannock are worse than here. Coming back from Cannock along the A34 there is a noticeable difference in cover somewhere between Huntington and Bednall. Looking at the radar loop from Meteociel it looked like we should have had a good few hours of heavy stuff here in Stafford which didn't seem to materialise despite areas to our West looking like they did pretty well.
Don't get me wrong, we've had another reasonable event but not close to folk that were in a yellow warning despite us being in an amber. There must be some meteorological or even geographical reason behind it but it's beyond me.
