  1. Good morning cold lovers .I do like the look of the 192 hrs chart on the ECM this morning ,not taking it as gospel but this evenings run could be interesting ,perhaps more in our favour ,lets keep our fingers and toes crossed .it does look like things become more mobile as we reach around the latter stages of the GFS , so perhaps some hope for us snow lovers .i know we are all waiting behind the settee hoping for that magical run of charts that show cold snow frost etc but we must remain Strong .Todays met office update due out soon ,perhaps we can gleen something from that .AN update from my local squirrels ,they are out enjoying the mild weather ,but going around chattering ,think they are saying Block moving north prepare for winter ,stock pile the food ,but i may be mistaken .take care all ,Stellas all round and enjoy yesterdays left overs ..ps my dog is getting excited ,perhaps something afoot .
  2. Hi fellow net weather friends. I am lurking about and do read the posts on model discussion forum .I wish you all a good Christmas and New year to you all. STELLAS all round cheers.
  3. good day to all my fellow posters on this very interesting forum , probably the best top weather forum on this planet .I have very good friends in Canada [ just north of Toronto ) They emigrated back in the mid 1970 s and my late wifes very best friend as worked in the weather business but now retired .I have had the pleasure on many occasions to visit weather centres in Canada and in this country ,especially when i was a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society ,but now demoted as i stopped paying my dues 5 yrs ago .The point is ,looking 5 days ahead with modern technology is prone to mistakes ,looking 7 days ahead is a head ache ,10 DAYS AHEAD , A BIT OF A HEAD BANGER .And us Snow lovers are trying to predict what will be happening beyond that .As i type i expect the latest Met office outlook is ready to go on line ,for me personally i follow this ,but only out to about 15 days , i always look at the ECM up to 7 days ,so as of now i do think better cold weather charts are just around the corner . with the SSW going on its going to be hard for any forecast model to get to grips with forecasts charts in our Neck of the woods .On about woods i have been up the wood shed this morning early ,had a good conversation with myself , checked on the local wild life and came to the conclusion that a big upgrade is a coming ,even the local squirrels are collecting peoples recycling ,two more squirrels seen wearing scarves up the woods today .Right gang ,must start preparing for tomorrows food ,i have my two boys coming plus grand daughter and a friend of mine ,also the dog ,i will be regularly popping in to this forum ,happy Christmas to all STellas all round ,enjoy ..
  4. I might be totally wrong but we must hang on in there and wait hopefully for some great charts to arrive on our screens .if this forecasted SSW does arrive and our luck is with us and the weather turns wintry in January that will be be half the battle .our squirrels here on mendip have been very active today and they have a look of hope ,think they love being all snug and warm and watching us humans suffer in deep snow and sub zero temperatures, iveven seen them laughing ,and last year in our Beast from the east they were heard saying bring it on .Great to read all the posts on here , I might not post so much these days but I am always popping in, here's to a mega cold spell ,snow for all ,from all types of synoptics ,similar to 1947 ,1963 , full frontal ,convective , etc etc .I wish all MY fellow weather mates a very good Christmas and New year and if you are a weather Model ,please bring it on ,cheers gang ,STELLAS ON ME .
  5. Good morning Gang .Just looking at the next 6/7 days on the ecm , and nothing wintry showing but rain ,some sunny days and Gales perhaps some wintry showers across the far north .But something is a foot ,I put my recycling out last night , plus a bag of old clothes for charity ,just checked on it and the bag was opened over night ,gone missing is an old scarf ,wool gloves ,several pairs of old socks ,the next door neighbour said there were several Squirrels out there at first light rummaging through my recycling and charity bag ,they even had their own carrier bags ,she let the Dogs out and they scarpered off towards the woods with all my stuff .Think the squirrels know what tonights ECM will bring and The next updated Met office outlook will bring ,the Wood shed is full of Wrens and Vermin all busy making themselves cosy .well gang we still have 10/11 weeks of winter left thats about 154 ecm runs ,plus 300 or so GFS etc etc ,so plenty of toys out of prams ,STELLA RUNS , being led up garden paths episodes ,Razor blade episodes ,and of course PROZAC moments, ENJOY the ride .This forum is the best in the world ,if you are interested in weather, the holy Grail .cheers Gang STellas are on me .
  6. Meant to post this last night but some forecasters saying mild Christmas. At this range ,about any thing could turn up ,strange year weather wise so far ,snow in the forecast tomorrow , STORMY with it ,plenty of rain next week and signs now of cold cyclonic next weekend . Our local squirrel s took BEDDING to their winter homes last week , yesterday they threw it out to the local polecats and like ,Today they are collecting it all back .went up woodshed just before sunset today and local vermin were BUSY storing winter food .some very interesting weather ahead I feel ,Stellas all round gang ,I'm usually lurking about as weather is always on my mind ,miss my dear late wife . It's great having this great forum , cheers all .
  7. Well gang ,something to get our teeth into .my dog as been over at the computer wagging his tail ,I spent time up the wood shed today summoning an easterly ,a good start ,some mild murk to come first and certainly some interesting charts on offer .I am off to the NORFOLK coast next Monday for a week Grey Seal WATCHING WILL I need hat and gloves .Great forum LETS hope we can all share a great winter , Stellas all round . .
  8. Certainly looking good for some fine settled conditions ,and if all the cards fall right some nice frosty murky mornings ,not bad for starters .going up the wood shed in a moment to have words with the weather gods , cheers to you all ..
  9. Evening all ,HI gang I have been lurking around and would like to thank all the regular posters for their contributions to our great net weather forum .Just put my bbq in the WOOD shed ,brought out the Snow spade and dusted the sledge ,Arctic air incoming ,some interesting charts with some nasty lows forming and running in our direction .What a year it's been ,something for everyone , Stellas all round cheers .
  10. Hi gang ,nice CELL heading my way ,I.m in Winscombe west mendip ,two very bright flashes no THUNDER yet ,looking good across parts of Cornwall, Anyone else in these parts got any action .
  11. Snow drifts followed by the north sea and English channel frozen solid allowing Wolves to cross from Europe and of course net weather crashing every night .back to the models ,an indication from today's charts that we have 5 days of v WARM to hot conditions then possibly a thundery breakdown ,after that if indeed the COOLER air arrives I think we are going to be kept WAITING .But I do have a gut feeling that some very interesting synoptics will be around next week , great forum keep the posts COMING Gang ,cheers Stellas all round .
  12. Radar showing some activity moving n east towards Cornwall , THINK this is a bit further north tracking than I read EARLIER today ,any one got any comments as I have been glued to paperwork today ,cheers gang .
  13. Good evening Gang ,i have just got back from Canada ,having spent the last month there with my late Wifes very best friend who emigrated there in the very hot dry summer of 1976 ,crikey it was hot there on the last week ,30 miles north west of Toronto ,but beautifull air cooling ,like living in a fridge .well certainly looks like the heat will be building again from tomorrow ,great to be able to come on this weather forum which i,v said before ,The best i think in the world .as for the forecast Models ,in this sort of very unusual set up , and taking in to account most of the Northern hemisphere is in unusual Synoptics at present i would only look at the next week as a maximum ,but hey gang we need to enjoy all this heat , yes it could last most of the summer but it could flip ,which often is the case with extreme weather ,cheers gang ,nice to be back home ,
  14. It seems to be a similar set up to what happened in june i think 2012 . i was visiting friends in Canada and watched it develope on the internet ,pretty sure we flew back following day .i,m pretty sure there will be some good action tonight but Hit and miss ,best of luck to all ,Mind the metal spoons and forks ,and keep away from the chimney etc etc ,all great fun for those who love it ,yes i can see some good towers going up to my far south east ,cheers Legritter west mendip ,
  15. Good morning Gang ,i havent posted much lately but been Lurking , great to see some summery weather forecasted by the charts .I do have a hunch that the next month or so will see big swings ,but lets hope the summer overall is one of BBQS ,Thunderstorms , and STELLA on ice , followed by a nice Autumn then the Winter from Hell ,i usually pop in here for a read most days , Thanks for all the great posts , cheers Legritter .
  16. Morning Gang ,ok the rain as cleared away but this nagging wind is a real pain .I am starting to venture out in the Garden a bit now ,with a pair of shears tidying up Lavenders etc .But this wind seems to creep up YER trouser legs and down the back of your kneck ,years ago i wouldn,t have moaned but now with rheumatism etc etc (getting old ) So hopefully looking at forecasts we could suck some warmer temperatures across our region and IF the sun comes out we should all be able to get out and do some Gardening .About 12 years ago i put in some Rhubarb think it was Timperley , two plants it gave loads of rhubarb for three years then disappeared down under !!!!! year before last it grew again ,and last year kept me and neighbours supplied ,even with a crop last Autumn ,and its just now showing at least a dozen tops ,seems to do well just left in an open site .We had a flock of about a dozen long tailed tits over the winter but now down to just one pair .I have occasionally seen a KITE flying about this area ,our local Perigrins Are chasing off our Buzzards from their nesting site.our Local Jack daws are Two to nearly every chimney pot around our area ,of course nesting site and FREE warmth from the Chimneys ,but still currently all flocking together come 7pm ish .Roll on the sunny warm days ,I love the Magical snow but looking forward to some outdoor life .cheers gang ,great that we can all have a chat on this Forum .
  17. This rain seems to be moving very very slowly ,as not moved much north east from my location north somerset ,for several hours now ,so expect some locations will see high totals ,probably the high pressure dropping down from the Arctic which is influencing todays Front .Interesting weekend coming up ,and IF the Dice falls right for our area we could pick up some Snowfall , cheers all .
  18. good afternoon gang ,There certainly is potential for Snow this weekend ,over many years of weather watching ,in this sort of set up forecasters wont stick their necks out too far because fronts etc can evolve very quickly in deep cold air .Already today Warnings have gone out for variouse parts of the country ,and although at the moment we are just outside the warning areas There could be a big shift tomorrow , Fax charts ,curtain twitching Radar and Lamp post watching on the menu again folks .Now food ,hot crispy sausages in bread with brown sauce ,crackly belly pork ,breast lamb stuffed, with chips BUT i do have a healthy day three times a week with veg fruit and some protean ,as i promised my Late wife back in November that i would look after myself .No one to tell me off now if i make the curtains dirty when Twitching ,well gang evening charts are on the way , best of luck to all that like the magical snow ,.
  19. HI GANG ,And late April about the 25th april ,1908 large areas of central and southern england had record breaking snow ,possibly 40cms plus in Southhampton ,Bristol and Oxford 850S ONLY ABOUT MINUS 5C ,SOrry about typing but getting tired ,So it looks like the Chase is on again ,lets see what the morning runs bring ,fingers crossed cheers all
  20. Knocker ,great that you are giving us plenty of info ,thank you .Rain just arriving in my kneck of the woods ,i,v just seen a bumble Bee having a good hunt about .LOW pressure a plenty on the charts and i can see some action weather arriving on Mothers day with perhaps some Thunder which will be of interest .
  21. Good afternoon fellow posters ,well it does look like a week of very high rainfall totals and action weather in a mild set up .But some Models are showing the possibility of high pressure becoming more of a player in the further outlook .The other day i looked up very cold snowy spells for early spring ,and came across the Late April 1908 very wintry weather episode ,if you put in Cold snowy April 1908 or go to Net weather past events ,you can get a good read and there is a video showing you the synoptic set up ,i,m pretty sure i,v seen it before but forgot about it .SO Will the SSW event bring us another memorable event ,theres still time if the synoptics arrive on our shores ,cheers Gang PS STellas all round .
  22. Although no return to deep cold showing at present ,the models do show Low after low Dumping down i feel high amounts of rain ,with always the potential for northern snow depending on the tracks of these lows .Yes very quiet on here ,but i,v got a feeling that more noticeable higher pressure could start to show soon ,probably around the north Atlantic area ,which a few models are hinting at ,just noticed another Poster got in before me ,here we go I Think johnholmes is rallying the troops ,cheers gang .
  23. very interesting GFS run at the moment ,lets see where we are this time tomorrow after 4 more runs and 2 ecm runs ,dont think winter is quite finished yet , well i,m turning in now with dreams of a bit more Snow ,cheers gang
  24. good afternoon fellow posters ,first of all a big thank you for all the info from different people over the recent very exciting cold and snowy spell .I keep saying this but we have a brilliant Weather forum , A brilliant Team ,And posters of all different Levels of experience .Its been great watching things come together ,back in the 80s all i really had in front of me was the Bristol weather centre ,they would post to me Fax charts out to five days ahead at just a small charge ,and of course the bbc , and late at night before the shipping forecast On radio 4 a look ahead for the week .As for current Models i think this week will become interesting again , The SSW event as made a very big difference in the northern hemisphere pattern ,and with the Atlantic a breading ground for low pressure centres ,and The GFS model showing high pressure further to our north , i am expecting another Cold spell or perhaps some shorter cold Snaps .There was a very cold period back in early APRIL about 1908 which gave disruptive snow in southern and central parts of England ,so Gang ,The Hunt is on again , perhaps a Beast from the North this time , CHEERS Gang ,
