Wow, by far the heaviest downpour of the year just went through, and at a time when all the showers seem to be fading, surprised there was no thunder.
There was at least 1 rumble of thunder
-
Nice surprise earlier to hear thunder!
Torrential convective rain was the main feature, followed by hail.
At least the hosepipe ban is off the cards. For now. -

I don't recall june 2019? July 2017 is the most insane storm I've ever witnessed.
It was mostly out in the channel followed by a direct hit towards the Eastbourne - Hastings area. I was on Worthing Pier watching the lightning for a good 2 hours.
-
Last night gets a 7 out of 10.
Lovely light show over the channel before it made landfall near Bognor and with it torrential rain.
Still has some way to beat the June 2019 channel bonanza.

When there might be a storm later and mother nature keeps everyone guessing until the very last minute, she be like...

Don’t take any notice of that @tomp456. You also forget they are in 3 hour increments - the stuff to your west will move and develop NE and the further wave will move from your S - so if it plays out like that it’d be incredible for you to miss out completely
That is a very good point lol
-
wow, looking at the latest AROME run, it looks like my location misses out on virtually all of the precip.
Will still hopefully get a good light show out in the channel though!

Anyone notice the cells around the channel islands?
plus the automotive NW forecast has me down for 57% chance of storms this evening,...hmmm!
I've had a storm when the predictor was on 0%. Pay no attention to them.

loads of faint flashes out to sea, tragically too faint to record on phone
-
Can see the occasional flash out to sea. hope the lightning peps up soon and something fires a little closer to me so I get a decent light show

Are the storms overnight going to be predominately elevated or surface based?
It is now completely overcast on the Sussex coast
