Friday 30 Dec - Sunday 8 Jan Probably dry across many areas at first on Friday, but showers that could be locally heavy at times likely to spread from the southwest throughout the day, and some risk of hill snow. Windy conditions likely, with gales possible across higher ground and towards the coasts. Temperatures close to the seasonal average. Weather remaining changeable into the New Year, with rain and showers most frequent in the west and northwest. Increased likelihood of longer dry periods as well, most likely towards the east and southeast. Any snowfall will be restricted to Scottish mountains. Mild in the south for the later part of the period, whilst the north sees a mixture of milder and colder spells. Monday 9 Jan - Monday 23 Jan Confidence remains low into mid-January, though most likely scenario is for changeable weather to continue. Mild at first but briefer cold spells from the north and northwest are possible at times, which would bring heavy snow showers to the north. Increased risk of overnight frosts. A trend back towards milder, wetter weather is most likely following this. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/uk -

Some heavy rain possibly lingering across parts of Scotland. Chance of some wintriness over higher ground. Gusty conditions likely, with some gales possible across central UK for much of the day. Friday and Saturday, conditions will generally be unsettled with spells or rain/showers, interspersed with shorter, drier interludes. In the new year, conditions are expected to be changeable, with rain/showers most frequent in the west and northwest and drier conditions further east and southeast. Wednesday 28 Dec - Friday 6 Jan On Wednesday, unsettled conditions will continue bringing cloud to most parts with some areas of rain, heaviest over western hills and the potential for showers in the far northwest. East and southeastern areas will be drier, however some rain here is still probable. Windy conditions are likely, with gales affecting western and southern coasts. Towards the end of the week, unsettled weather will remain with spells or rain and showers, interspersed with shorter, drier interludes. At the end of the year, uncertainty is high, although the most probably scenario is changeable conditions, with rain, and some snow at times in the north, interspersed with colder, brighter spells. Temperatures will be variable, but overall, they will most likely to be close to or slightly below normal. Saturday 7 Jan - Saturday 21 Jan Confidence remains low into mid-January. There is a signal for generally settled conditions, although some periods of wet and windy weather are still possible and with this will come the chance of snow. Temperatures are likely to be around or a little below normal, with colder conditions perhaps developing again by mid-January. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/uk -

Tuesday 27 Dec - Thursday 5 Jan On Tuesday, strong winds, cloud and outbreaks of rain and drizzle will spread eastwards across much of the UK. The heaviest rain will be in the west with drier conditions perhaps spreading to the north later. Temperatures are expected to become increasingly mild through the day. For the rest of the period, changeable weather conditions are likely across most parts of the UK. Showers or longer spells of rain are expected across many regions, with the heaviest rain in the west and some snow across Highlands of Scotland. These unsettled conditions will likely be interspersed by drier and brighter spells. Temperatures will be variable, but overall, they will most likely be close to or slightly below normal, with a lower chance of mild conditions. Friday 6 Jan - Friday 20 Jan Confidence remains low into mid-January.

Monday 26 Dec - Wednesday 4 Jan Frequent wintry showers affecting northern areas on Monday, these becoming confined to the Northern Isles, where very windy too. Elsewhere, some sunshine, but an area of cloud and rain, with a small chance of snow on its northern edge may return from the south for a time. For the following few days, probably a fairly windy and changeable period of weather, with rain, and some snow at times, interspersed with colder, brighter spells. Around the turn of the year, uncertainties in the forecast increase, but a ridge of high pressure may bring a quieter interlude for many with more widely colder conditions, overnight frost and crisp, sunny days. Some wintry showers are also possible, especially in coastal areas. Thursday 5 Jan - Thursday 19 Jan Confidence remains low at the start of the year. There is a signal for generally settled conditions though periods of wet and windy weather are still possible, and within this will come the chance of some snow. Temperatures are likely to be around or a little below normal, with some generally colder conditions perhaps developing again around mid-January. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/uk -
