  1. Trying to work out what the hell is banging outside so I can send OH out to tie it down otberwise there'll be no sleep!
  2. I think I've worked out that a row of trees is protecting our house from the worst of it. Those trees are quite diagonal now and the houses on the other side of it are losing everything that isn't fastened down.
  3. I think I'm the same as you. I think I'm sheltered by our neighbours as everyone just down the road seems to be getting massively battered.
  4. Are we being protected by something here in Strood? Apart from a few noticeable gusts, it doesn't seem to be as bad as it sounds elsewhere.
  5. After 2 landing attempts, I wonder where they are diverting to, the EZY behind him also went around and seems to be following him. http://www.flightradar24.com/MON249
  6. LGW has now had several go arounds in a row. I guess that tells us what the winds are like coming this way....
  7. ATC and the pilots are earning their money tonight. God help any of those passengers if they are scared of flying. Still in the lull here.
  8. Just had to go and pick OH up from Ebbsfleet as the trains were stopping there. It is VERY dangerous on the roads, sheet rain, crazy spray and big puddles. Lots of aquaplaning and bad braking. Please do not go out in it unless you have to. I don't think I have ever been so alert driving in my life. Bear in mind this was during the CALMER part of the storm.
  9. All flights have an alternate if they cannot land at their destination. As he had been around a few times he was probably getting low on fuel and therefore couldn't risk another go around, so he or she went to the alternate.
  10. Seems like during this brief lull, LGW are getting the landings in ASAP and all departing traffic is holding on the taxiways.
  11. I don't know if the radar is going funny but no one is taking off from LGW and most that have gone around seem to be diverting. LGW closing?
  12. I have a feeling there is going to be a few fuel emergencies tonight. I would both love and hate to be a pilot in weather like this.
  13. Have been watching FR24 and almost every 4th flight is going around! they are going to have to close the airports soon!
  14. OH has just phoned from London. The coach company he commutes with have been promising all day that they would be running as normal. They were saying that at 5pm. They have now been informed that actually they have cancelled all coaches and left nearly 3 coach loads of people stranded. I know the weather can't be helped but they could have at least not PROMISED they would be running a service so people could take precautions. He's now having to battle his way home on the trains which are barely functioning. He wants to leave it an hour or so to let the rush die down, but I've told him to go now as it is only going to get worse and more than likely they'll top running altogether. That was the best advice to give, right?
  15. We have pretty constant sustained strong winds now. The clouds are practically running past.
  16. Just been out to deliver the neighbours cards. My top blew up just as a bus went past. It wasn't even a light top, it's a wooly jumper!
  17. Going to go out this morning to do all the last bits and bobs and then batten down the hatches later. Stay safe everyone and remember if it feels risky to go out, don't. That is what instinct is there for!
  18. Windy and torrential rain. BBQ anyone? I think the only consolation about the upcoming storm is that less people SHOULD be out and about. So hopefully injuries will be at a minimum.
  19. Well it certainly has blown a hooligan all night. Got woken up several times by the house shaking.
