  1. There is nothing wrong with it. As i have said on the other thread people are fans of lots of things that unfortunately may kill people as a consequence. Surely there's no point in enjoying anything if you stop enjopying it the moment it has a fatality.

As i've said it's very rarely the weather that directly kills you, but lack of preperation or not following guidelines. For example what kills a lot of people in heatwaves is not drinking enough water, not seeking shade etc. It's very difficult (unless it's a flash flood or similar) to be killed by extreme weather if you are following all precautions and advice.

If anything those who are fans of extreme weather make it safer for everyone else by seeing what's coming and providing warnings. Hell if it wasn't for storm chasers tornado warnings would be a lot worse. NO ONE who is a fan of extreme weather wishes damage or death on people, but sadly that is a consequence sometimes.

Surely it's better to be a fan of the extremes of nature than the extrmes of man?

  2. Tonight's weather IMO is likely to be rather low key, certainly in comparison with what hit Scotland and N England last week, but also in comparison with what potentially threatens most of the UK in 3-4 days time. A brief spell of 60-70mph gusts up the Channel and across the SE corner into EA likely, which in itself could cause disruption and some structural damage. Some very heavy rain likely too, particularly across southern and western areas of the UK.

I'd agree with that actually. Sure I don't know too much about charts and the like, but from what I've seen i reckon you'res spot on.

My elderly neighbours have been well and truly scaremongered and are tying everything down and stocking up on tins....

  3. An odd comment as you posted this, And I suspect my views are fairly obvious.

"This is how I feel. If people didn't enjoy things that killed people, no one would enjoy anything Of all the things that people enjoy, weather has got to be pretty low down on the lst of things that kill".

*cough* sorry to interrupt, but I posted that, not Jane *exits quietly*

  4. The World Health Organisation has estimated that the extreme heat of 2003 caused more than 15, 000 excess deaths in France, Portugal and Italy alone. It is also the biggest natural killer event in the US. There was an interesting interview with an elderly trawlerman from Peterhead on the radio this morning regarding being at sea in these storms. I can empathise with his comments. I was in the Clyde in 68 when half of Glasgow disappeared and men drowned not far from where we were. As it was we nearly ended up in Gourock high street. I should add I don't think trawlermen are ignorant but extremely brave.

Yes but most of those deaths were not from heat alone, but the consequences of it. For example, people not drinking enough water, not seeking shade etc. In many weather related deaths, it's not the weather itself that kills but people not taking the correct precautions.

  5. I apologise if I'm about to offend or upset anyone here but why is it that some posters are made to feel bad for wanting a major storm so pass over their way?

I would like to experience some extreme weather events in my lifetime and I will not apologise for that. Obviously there is going to be the risk of damage and maybe worse but this is NATURE! We are a part of that, and there's no reason I can see that myself and others should be made to feel stupid or ignorant of the possible outcomes just because we crave the experience of extremes.

This is how I feel. If people didn't enjoy things that killed people, no one would enjoy anything Of all the things that people enjoy, weather has got to be pretty low down on the lst of things that kill.

  6. Its a soak away...I know it's not in best nick..It is ment to drain the patio which is about 25 ish square meters....With all that rain that runs into it that water has to go somewhere..When it cant handle it suffers and pours through the arch and into my garden and turns it into a pond lol

Hmm, that rain hasn't really transpired to be much considering it was supposed to be really havey looking at the radar.

  7. I know this won't mean alot to anybody who doesn't live in Kent. But a family friend of ours is a police officer and he told us that there have only ever been 4 attempts to close the M2 bridge since 1985 (he doesn't know about before then). One of them was the great storm of 1987. Apparently it didn't work as the wind kept blowing away all their barricades, but luckily very few people tried to cross anyway. It's uspposed to close if gusts will be over 50mph, but it hardly ever happens.
