  1. Happy Birthday Lauren drunk.gif

Hmm...the 'lumpy' ones are better, although it does signify moisture at mid levels which isn't a bad thing.

There's a line of activity moving North from the Channel at the moment and has your name on it. The SW is favourable during more daylight hours before diverting eastwards towards evening time and overnight.

I think where things develop it could be quite rapid...I often find the later into the year you get, development can be quite quick along with electrification (i.e get flashes from fairly innocuous looking clouds)

It was yesterday, but we're spreading the celebration over three days. Saturday was Thorpe park, yesterday family and cake and Wednesday a posh steak dinner. So I still consider myself celebrating!

  2. OK:

January: Very cold, thick snow on the ground and continued blizzards until the end of the month. We'd have a better way of dealing with the snow obviously although for several days even our best equipment won't be able to deal with it and the nation will have no choice but to frolick in the snow all day. High 4C/Low -15C

February: Snow eases off but blizzards are still likely, snow is now eay to deal with, but still moderate on the ground. Bright days and the snow is melted by the end of the month. 6C/-5C

March: First signs of springs. Light rain showers wash away any remaining sludge and freshens up the landscape. Days feel warmer, but nothing much happens weatherwise. 17C/3C

April: Really starts to warm up with occasional April showers thrown in. Still the occasional cold day, but most are warm enough not to need a jumper or coat. The occasional hot day signals the start of the hot summer to come. 21C/10C

May: The heat starts to kick in. We will have hot May bank holidays and relief comes in the form of the very occasional downpour (not electrical). These are the first BBQ days of the year and it's time to bring out the shorts and flip flops. 25C/15C

June: Hot, hot, hot! Very little, if any rain all month. Expect the typical British pastime of not putting any suncream on and most of the population looking like lobsters. A heavy thunderstorm brings some relief at the end of the month. 32C/24C

July: Same as June. Papers headlines will say 'What A Scorcher!' with pictures of packed beaches (this has also happened numerous times in May and June) 37C/24C

August: Still hot, but the heat becomes more humid as moisture collects in the air. Mid August brings the start of some strong thunderstorms although these will only be a few short storms with a couple of all nighters. 32C/21C

September: Still warm, but the cool down has started. BBQ's and sunbathing are still on the agenda but this is thunderstorm month. Not a week goes by without having at least 3 storms. Several all nighters (like the good old days). Expect many multicells and a couple of supercells. 28C/18C

October: A few strong thunderstorms still igniting over most of the country but get less as the month goes on. A few chilly days and it feels like the world is getting ready for winter. Most days are still enjoyably warm and it doesn't rain (except in thunderstorms). People have their last BBQ's. All in all a pleasant month after the hot summer and active thunderstorm month of September. 22C/12C.

November: Much cooler this month. Time to get coats out again and mornings are cold and crisp, but during the day the sun still warms up the earth and feels nice on your face. The month is interspersed with a handful of showers, some heavy. Nights are cold. 12c/1C

December: First half starts out bitterly cold with wet and windy weather. Torrential downpours are common. Heavy snow arrives just in time for Christmas and everyone enjoys a white Christmas all over the land. Snow is think on the ground and will be until the end of January. The conective energy in the armosphere from the hot summer and warm autumn create plenty of thundersnow. 7C/-6C

  3. Forgive me but isn't that the whole point of a weather forum? To discuss the weather regarless of whether it is a given what we know the season should bring?

Sorry I have edited and clarified I don't mean people on here, but others.smile.png

The way people talk about it you'd think it was news that, shock horror, winter happens to be cold!

  4. I'm getting pretty fed up of people saying 'oooooh it's supposed to be getting very cold at the end of the month and they (forecasters I presume) are saying it won't be long till it snows. We've got a cold spell coming'.

Well yes, it happens every year. IT'S CALLED WINTER.wallbash.gif

To clarify I don't mean people on here. i mean other people.

  5. January - Very sunny throughout to get us through the bleakest times but also a good battleground snow setup or 2

    Average Temp: 3c / -6c

February - Very sunny and frequently snowy but with a warm week long sunny spell with temps in the mid teens.

    Average Temp: 6c/-5c

March - Increasing UV index combines with a mixture of arctic blasts and unsettled atlantic spells to give many convective setups

    Average Temp: 11c/0c

April - Extremely sunny (300+ hours) with a mix of warm and cool spells and occasional convective spells.

    Average Temp: 20c/9c

May - 300+ hours of sunshine and warm throughout

    Average Temp: 24c/13c

June - Very warm with unbroken sunshine 9am-4pm every day then convective evenings occasional giving powerful nightime storms.

    Average Temp: 27c/15c

July - Unbroken sunshine on all 31 days with any rain in the form of nighttime storms, a mix of hot spells and cooler spells.

    Average Temp: 28c/17c

August - A mix of hot spells and violent thunderstorms, again another 300+ hours of sunshine month.

    Average Temp: 28c/16c

September - Like the last week of September this year for 80% of the month, warm & sunny but some more unsettled weather at times.

    Average Temp: 25c/13c

October - Sunny and pleasantly warm with very little rain.

    Average Temp: 20c/11c

November - A mix of major warm and cold spells, with snow, hail, gales, thunderstorms, sunny days, everything basically.

    Average Temp: 13c/3c

December - Cold and sunny with major snowy spells especially around christmas with blizzards and frequent battleground setups.

    Average Temp: 4c/-3c

Overall: Around 3500-4000 hours of sunshine per year overall, a warm dry climate for most of the year with short but sharp cold snowy winters so i guess something similar to US cities such as Denver, Boise etc.

I'd also except a climate with 20-30c year round and unbroken sunshine bar occasional thunderstorms laugh.png

Very nice year and your June is how I swear the old summers used to be.

  6. January - generally cool and dry. Max 3c/Low -7c

February - warming towards the end, same pattern. Max 4c/Low -7c

March - generally warm, but with the possibility of intense arctic bursts. Max 9c/Low -1c

April - becoming much hotter but with the opportunity of intense arctic bursts still - and some showery polar air at times. Max 16c/Low 4c

May - showery at times but towards the end of any showery season. Warmth from south becomes stronger. Max 20c/Low 7c

June - often generally hot and dry. Max 23c/Low 8c

July - even hotter with the possibility of t-storms towards the end from the south west. Max 25c/Low 10c

August - generally hot but cooling slightly at the end especially, t-storms in short bursts very likely. Max 24c/Low 11c

September - cooling dramatically after t-storms end. Still glimpses of warmth possible. Max 20c/Low 8c

October - first frosts likely. little warmth available, as with coolness. often foggy/dry. Max 13c/Low 4c

November - becoming very cold. little mild weather above 10c likely. very snowy due to cold air and warm waters. Max 5c/Low -1c

December - coldest month usually. Still warm waters collide with increasingly cold air to give dramatic cold, wet weather. Max 1c/Low -5c

    That's detailed!

  7. U say all this is just dreamcast stuf u ready to laugh but would u come back and post if what people r saying r rite? Also the met forecasted a mild winter last year and look what happend every1 got cort with their pance down.

    Can someone translate please?

  8. For example, my ideal weather year would be:

7 months of warm to hot weather with several good thunderstorms thrown in, 3 months of spring/autumn weather (still pleasant outside no need for a jumper, but with some much needed rain after the 7 months of relative dryness), 1 month thunderstorm season and one month of winter with lots of snow and thundersnow.

What would yours be and is there anywhere in the world where you ideal weather year exists?

  9. Boo winter! When i come to power winter shall last one month and in that month thee will be copious amounts of snow, thundersnow and Christmas and every Christmas will be white. So basically the best bits of winter rolled into one month.

I am refusing to put the heating on until after my birthday.
