  1. Paul Domaille on UKWW is saying GFS moves everything slowly eastward with a reduction in Dps and surface temps in the UK...slight chance of some action in the SE while mainland Europe gets the action (will have to run that video again )
  2. First time I've seen it - I have never laughed so much in ages
  3. If you need a comfort break I'll get the special biscuits in and some more beer... the view ain't much but the driveway has parking for 8 cars Rob
  4. And failing that, there's always the Cromer Ridge (92m ASL) I'm inclined to agree about the murk possibility - the June 2009 storms were just a big heap of grey (occasionally black) clouds with pink lightning that sears your eyeballs but rarely visible as a CG/CC. One day I'll manage to capture a blurred and distant lightning strike...
  5. OK, it was followed by three more Roll on next week, I might hear another four
  6. Apparently I should have had several storms knocking at my door today. Not so much as a hint of a possibility of a rumble of thunder; most of Norfolk has had nothing decent in the way of storms for months and months (if it had I would have been out and about ). I actually heard a rumble of thunder for the first time this year on 11th June , gone are the days of early spring storms in April and May, we also seem to have lost our August storm fest in recent years as well. Hey ho, still several weeks to go yet
  7. Missed me too, and I'm only a little SW of Norwich Looks nice though
  8. Terrific squally shower here again, the willow tree at the front is thrashing about like a mad thing, but still not so much as a murmur - more noise from people taking their wheelie bins back....
  9. Pfft....just one minor shower this morning, plenty of convection each side of me as usual and some heavy rain in other areas judging by the radar this morning. Will I get an increase on 4 rumbles of thunder this year
  10. Not surprised to hear that after the heavy rain around lunchtime. Picking up a lot of sferics on the radio (stranded in shed after recent heavy shower) but nothing seen or heard apart from the sound of water dripping merrily from a leaking gutter
  11. Mustn't grumble, over 2hrs of lovely rain here - I can hear the grass breathing a sigh of relief Rob
  12. Suddenly went very dark outside, small orange/yellow blob heading this way....more rain hopefully
  13. Waiting for the rain band to clear (BBC Look East said 4pm, so it's got precisely one minute ) but would expect any showers to be fairly infrequent (if any) now. Still, 2hrs of light to moderate rain, mustn't grumble
  14. What a fantastic end to the season, you must all be chuffed to bits And what an we say about Mr S? Magic wheels and inbuilt doppler!!!
  15. Just evicted myself from the No Storms Club Checked the radar and saw a small blue area heading our way so decided to walk the dogs; just getting down to the river when there was this sudden flash in front of my eyes....followed by loud booming thunder Two more nice CGs as well, really developed from nothing in about 20 mins, obviously down to the fact that there was nothing else to suck out any available energy. Has weakened now but a nice surprise all the same Rob
  16. And.....sadly I must resign from the NSC, just had a discrete cell pop up from nothing, two good CGs and some very loud thunder It's the little blob just now to the north of Norwich, literally went from nothing to something in 20 minutes
  17. Sound frequency is also a factor, I know mine can hear thunder when it's too distant for a human ear, which I think is the low level frequency (no idea, not a physicist ) However my weird little blue merle Silva (he who wanted to be elsewhere) ate his way through our back door when we were at the Norwich showground for a firework display one year, yet quite happily came out in the paddock on Bonfire night and pootled around even though there were a lot of whizz bangs! If the forecast is right for the end of the week I'll be using my Rescue Remedy!
  18. I'm hoping for a repeat of 2009 - very poor storm wise until 15th June when it went completely crazy, hours of constant thunder and lightning, torrential rain, hail....and again on the 28th, followed by a series of nasty storms on the 17th July At the moment I'd just like to see proper rain Put it this way, my sheep are on the final 5 acres of grazing, they were moved off the first field in rotation in mid-April. The grass is exactly the same length now as it was then
  19. Hiya Jane, I mainly have herding/pastoral breeds (Border Collies and Australian Shepherds) and they do tend to be the most sound sensitive as well as the most reactive. The development of when and how they start to show a reaction varies. One of my collies didn't bother with storms or fireworks until he was about seven. His coping strategy was to be anywhere other than where he was. It wasn't uncommon to see him curled up asleep under the agility A frame in the paddock rather than in his nice snug kennel His brother (who won his first Obedience CC in a raging thunderstorm at the Norwich Showground) was a very calm and confident dog but over the years started to link rain with thunder and would show signs of anxiety if it rained heavily. He may well have detected atmospheric changes even if the storm didn't fully develop. My current group (2 Aussies and a Border Collie) have different attitudes. Suni (4yrs) is very sound sensitive, he hates gunshots and will disappear under the coffee table (this has only developed recently so it will be interesting to see how he reacts when we actually have a storm) His father barks at the lightning (thinks it's car headlights coming down the drive probably) and occasionally paces around. My youngster Jamie (collie) doesn't show any noise sensitivity but obviously learned behaviour will also be a factor. You can try Bach flower remedies (Mimulus, Rock Rose or the Rescue Remedy) or homeopathic remedies (Gelsemium). Some people will use a CD to help desensitise the dog over a period of time. Rob
  20. Hang the storms, it's hosing it down here at last
  21. Ditto, surrounded by anvils since about 3pm, it's chucked it down in every village round here apart form mine - a few spits and spots this morning and now some light rain off the back edge of a passing shower. Might make the grass a bit greener...
  22. Not sure whether I dreamt it but I'm sure there was a report on one stream about Goldsby and a possible EF4 ploughing through? Rob
