  1. Yep....looks like another powder puff "breakdown" for yours truly. Now had 2 "Spanish Plumes" this year and both (for moi) have abjectly failed to deliver. They sure don't make them like they used to.:wallbash: A totally thunderless June (ala 2010) and the 3 year wait for an overhead storm goes on.

Same here. The bleak district and wales never seem to get the exciting weather.

  2. Thats the problem with forums, any whiff of a storm and people sit in front of their computers all day and once their bum goes numb their brain soon follows. Its still very early yet.

A lot of people especially where I live wait even years for a good storm and so when they think they may be in with a chance then what do you expect. So then if you know so much you tell me, are we likely to get a storm up here? If not, then that's even longer to wait and you can see why it is disappointing to some people. Not.

  3. Same here. The hottest day of the year in 2010 was May 23rd with 25.3, this was the only day of the year to reach 25c.

In the last 33 years only 7 Junes have reached 25c, the last time being in 2005. July has reached 25c on 16 occasions and August on 12.

25c really is a hot day in this part of the world and I'll be making plenty of contributions to the whining thread if we get anywhere near it this summer.

    That bit in bold..... hideous.

Here it reached 26 degrees in June 2006 and 25 degrees three times last June.

I used to live in SE England so 25 degrees is barely even warm for me. That was closer to the average high for July (24C) where I lived. I've been through plenty of 90's (32.2c) temps in SE England. B-E-Autiful. Needless to say I hope to move away from here soon. Even bloody Manchester is a climatic upgrade over here. That's very sad.

Going by your post I bet 25c feels to you like how 40c would feel to me.

  4. I don't think it got to 25C at all last June and July? At least not above ~300m. It reached 25C in May though.

In my place we hit 25 degrees on 26th, 27th and 28th of June, and not at all in July. But June was generally very warm and sunny with an average high around 19 degrees and very dry. "Shades of 76" would have fitted that far better than this one.

  5. Even last June/1st half of July was closer to "shades of 1976" than this summer... by far. Now people are calling 1 day of 25°C a "heatwave" it shows how desperate we have become.

There was once a time when a "heatwave" was at least 3 consecutive days over 30°C and not just in the SE. Even in my part of Derbyshire Peak District last June we managed a lot of days reaching 25°C.

  6. I tend to agree, but it depends on cloud amounts. If the skies stay clear and wind is light in southeastern England then temperatures could get above 30C in say places like Ashford in Kent, however it depends on humidity too. Further north I noticed the regional weather only gave 20C for Sunday.. I did let out a rather large mocking laugh when I saw that.. with 12C 850hPa temperatures only with persistent rain would you reach just 20C at that level. Even if cloudy I envisage even parts of the northern England could reach 25C or something similar.

It is not so much the temperatures I'm looking forward too though, with such a warm airmass over us if the 6z on Monday occurred, 22C air temperature and 20C dewpoint would make it feel rainforest like.

In August 2008, many parts of the Midlands and East Midlands only reached 19-20°C maxes with15-16°C 850hpa temps under persistent cloud. So this forecast is plausible.
