I have done, but the airspace around London is fairly difficult to avoid these things. If I had an instrument rating, then yes you get on top of the scud and would get some great views of them.

I did this flight on last years' storms, was interesting.

As you can see, you've got to be very very careful.  You could run into a cell.  I hope in the EU we soon get ADSB Datalink for weather downloads.

However there's this video of me flying through some interesting weather, later to become TSRA.

Enjoyed that flight back from LT. Interesting, especially the traffic coming across

Greatly enjoyed the Chilterns storm.  First one for years that turned left and went west along the Chilterns. !630- 1720 almost continuous thunder lot of CG strikes torrential rain but no hail.  Delightful cold breeze blowing outwards. Temp fell 11C.  Best storm here for years.

Yeah, bloody Easterlies! We were in the firing line until it suddenly went west. Grumble mutter etc etc

No wonder it's so severe in Wales and the SW Midlands. This is a snapshot of surface winds over the UK

Look at all those various wind directions. Northerlies over Wales, Southerlies over SW England and easterlies over the rest of England. Also there appears to be an independent rotational feature showing up too, maybe due to supercell action.

Amazing. I think that nice Easterly all the way from Denmark is coming into my lounge at the moment! So much nicer.
