Yes it developed of the south west coast and is rapidly deepening because the jet stream is really fired up running high up along the channle at the momment. This causes it to rotate quite quickly and pushes it along the south east quite fast, creating unstable conditions. The air is tring to equalize rapidly so that is whats creating so much wind and rain. On a side note we had a great bit of thunder and lightening that woke me up at 4:30am -

hi alpine, it looks like the worst winds will be between about 11am-1pm for us, im from Hastings to and expecting it to really crank up a bit later looking at the maps. Maybe go out to a cafe for a couple of hours in the worst of it? I would say the gusts are about 30-40mph at the mo and its expected to reach 70mph -

Sunday 4th November - Active Weather System

gusting really nice in the channel already. 40mph gust. You can really see the shape of the low, very tight and small using the http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ just a fraction to north west of bournemouth. Just spotted the temp map on the same webpage, its really interesting checking out the differences in temp, Bournemouth is 10c and Dunkeswell just slightly to the west is 1c!!! This cold air will be dragged down and round as the low pulls across us, so any sleet/wet snow will be on the west/north west side of the low I imagine.- 2 replies

weather warnings for rain on sunday starting early hours by Met office up to 40mm locally. Looks like it will be a bit of now casting because it is down to a secondary low spawning from the main one that has been hanging around near Ireland for last couple of days. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/ 60mph gusts forecast by 9am alogn the coast, I don't take much notice of these lately as Met office has been really poor on wind gusts recently. Could be an interesting one to watch, as this secondary low was forecast to be a beast a few days ago . Worth keeping an eye on. -

yea, I have been following this all night on the weather channel, really brilliant, this has been the best coverage to follow what it's really like to be in a hurricane. -

The Zipping Friday low has been slightly upgraded on the 18z. This would produce a notable wind event and I would imagine a substantial amount of rain. -

I believe this will be the equaliser for UKMO. In my opinion GFS seem to be the top model for noticing trends picking them up deep in FI and UKMO seem more accurate the nearer we get at pinning down the important details that make big differences. -

what kind of conditions would this forecast give, if it came off? that looks like a very substantial storm. Am I right in thinking the rain would not be as bad as an atlantic born storm? -

It is all down the pesky High that is now expected to sit below Greenland. The trend for this over the last few runs is for it to sink further south and maybe slightly east. Pushing the bulk of the artic surge into the rest of euorpe. It is also beginning to trend towards breaking apart or at least getting pushed around later on which is not so good! I would rather see this high keeps its shape than get an amazing blast of cold weather however I think the two are linked anyways -

I wasn't sure where to post this but im looking at the GFS charts and I select one as Prev run and one as Current run. Now sometimes, the 'Prev' chat is being updated and the current chart is showing?? The chart with 'current' is surely the most up to date or am I being stupid? Also could someone please clear up for me the whole 06z 12z 18z thing? I don't understand it and would really like to look out the latest updates. I saw people on here posting about the 06z just after lunchtime? Thanks in advance -

The forecast is great for mushrooms at the momment, the ground is lovely and soft, get picking before the big easterly comes -
Well im totally disappointed from a south eastern point of view, we were promised torrential rainfall amounts from yesterday and this morning and heavy gusting winds today, we ended up with barely anything. The radar was showing heavy rain over us and all we got was short heavy bursts, and the max gust we have had after being forecast up to 70mph is about 40mph pushing it. Very tame indeed down south. I guess I will have to look on to the next system.

Morning, I woke up thinking Karin had died, but looking at the radar and warnings, it seems like thing are about to get serious. Those rainfall amounts over wales/north west england look very worrying, it looks like its time to prepare the sandbags and get the possessions upstairs! For me the winds are a bit concerning, the Met has 65-70mph in exposed areas which is very damaging for this time of year. Good luck to everyone in the heavy rain areas, please don't leave it to late to save your possessions and get to safety.

big lightning here and a hefty deep rumble that shakes right through you seems the worst of the rain has shifted eastwards and coming straight for me. -
