  1. Thank you snowfall good.gif all makes sense now haha. Found this forum through a link on google so never really explored all the weather data on the site.

I also had a thought how everyone has been calling this a ex hurricane/hurricane etc, they should really invent a new way of naming winter storms/autumn storms that are of significance. So when it makes the transition in to an Atlantic storm it can still be tracked without the confusion and inaccurate media translations which result in scare mongering. Today I even read on the yahoo news page (which was posted today) that there was a hurricane that was going to hit UK and was category 3. They failed to explain that it was category 3 when it was 1000's of miles away, which was obviously taken from when she was just north of Caribbean. they then went on to explain the 1-5 scale of hurricanes. These kind of stupid news reports doesn't help anyone.

  2. Morning people,

This thing is now hard to track since it has left the hurricane radars, does anyone have a good site for visuals like stormpulse but for winter storms?

Looking at the IR pictures it looks as though the Jet stream has ripped her to pieces, will she regain the cloud shape as she gets closer and does anyone have latest central pressure?

still crossing fingers for a southerly turn sorry.gif

  3. Hey sns,

I am no meteriologocal expert at all....but models of any description for any use do tend to confuse..sometimes best not to try and understand the variables and coefficents and data that gets calcualted only the outcomes tease.gif. You could be here for eternity working it out and I think (from other model uses) takes a very special person tease.gif ..not saying that you arent ...maybe you are...oh damn I think my post has come out all the wrong way.fool.gif .sorry was trying to be helpful. i will go back to just reading the posts...

Thanks, hehe, I will take your advise and just hope BAMM is correct! who ever BAMM is lol. A few other interesting tracks in there taking it on a curve south etc. The track of Maria is also starting to look like one to follow.

  4. Can anyone explain why some of those models are very different to others? for instance the BAMM model shows it crashing straight into central UK and across Europe, how can they be so different? do some have less accurate equipment or are they just inputting slightly different readings? I am bit confused doh.gif

Raining hard in Hastings this evening if anyone cares laugh.png hope lightning later.

  5. Am I wrong in thinking that this has similar ingredients to the 1987 storm? I know it is from a different direction but surely the very warm air and moisture carried over by this storm will then meet the cool temperatures over the Atlantic and the pressure will deepen very fast? I understand that in the 1987 storm there was a very warm area of low pressure over Bay of Biscal that rapidly moved north east meeting the unusually cold air coming down from Iceland?

How much do the forecasters know about very warm tropical depressions interacting with cold atlantic air? I assume with the huge amounts of secondary lows we get they have already cooled down well before they get near us?

  6. My first post blink.png

Been following this unusual and interesting event, but as a novice weather enthusiast I have a lot of questions!

    1. Could someone tell me at what time it is due to start interacting with the jet stream or has that already happened? surely this will be the most interesting stage.

    2. Will we likely see some impressive thunderstorms down in the south east coast?

    3. Does the warm moist air and stormy conditions make for a good chance for tornado's?

    4. You guys keep mentioning 18z and 12z, forgive me for being dumb but are these different hours on a chart?

I am hoping a sudden turn to the south! just to get a small taste of what a hurricane is like, I know this can be deadly but it is also fascinating.

    Thanks in advance! laugh.png
