  1. Weird thing is that if I stick my head out the window, I can see broken cloud with stars peeping through the gaps, but feel light rain in the wind...
  2. Confirming Chapmanslade and Andy, it's quiet in Westbury - I'd even say it's brightened up a bit, although it is of course 9.30, and how bright can it get But it is noticeable.
  3. Not entirely true -- I went from "somewhat believing" to "hardened skeptic" *because* I took a serious look at the subject Cheers Steve
  4. Thanks to all who replied re: scud/funnel. You'd think I'd been reading NW long enough to differentiate between funnel and tornado, but I got so obsessed worrying about typing "mini-tornado" and incurring the wrath of... nearly everyone... I forgot what I was at Can take no credit for the pix - they were taken by my son. Don't worry, I clipped him around the earhole and severely reprimanded him for *not* taking a video so we could confirm rotation
  5. Hi Chaps, Tornado or scud? (Photographed yesterday over the North-west of Warminster). Cheers Steve
  6. M4 was getting a light covering at about 10.45, particularly in outside lane. The A46 down into Bath was a snow-fest, only to be taken with much caution. The A36 was less of a problem, but because of what I'd witnessed on the A46 I was taking it slowly (hence I was overtaken by somebody!) in case I rounded a corner and found the sort of conditions I'd just traversed. Nothing impassable tho, just great care needed in some places, A46 especially. Kind of slushy though, so I expect the morning rush hour will clear it all...
  7. Right. well I said I'd go to Telford whatever happens, and I did. So... what are my chances of getting back into Westbury, leaving Telford at about nine and arriving in Westbury at about 11.30? Well, I'm guessing I won't be driving quite as fast as usual once I hit somewhere around Gloucester... Will I need a shovel?
  8. Westbury isn't getting any yet... Wondering if it's all going to dissipate before it gets here. That biggiemauls is getting some (snow that is) is encouraging... While Rain Rain Rain is further north, so that's expected. So I continue to wait...
  9. I'm going to blinkin' Telford this Tuesday whether it snows or not, goddammit! It'll only be a trip through the yellow section, after all...
  10. Still snowing in the part of Wiltshire. Ok, the met office radar is half an hour behind, but I'm liking the look of it...
  11. Moderate in Westbury, must have somewhere around an inch now. If it stopped now, it still looks nicer than anything I've had so far this winter. The sky is orange, and outside my window there is snow silence...
  12. V. v. v. light snow started here. Funny to think I could be under 10 inches of the stuff later...
  13. The Tewkesbury - Worcester M5 traffic cams are showing a bit of snow on the M5. (Trip to Telford cancelled
  14. Hmm - a trip to Telford tomorrow (leaving at mid-day and coming back at 9pm) is looking even less likely... Just as well I keep an eye in this thread. Perhaps I should have bought those snow socks for my car last week...
  15. Oh lordy, when am I ever going to get that journey from Westbury to Telford done? Tuesday - icy. Weds - Foot of snow. Tomorrow looks like the best prospect, assuming I can get out of the side streets onto a main road. Hmm.
  16. Ha, just to think I didn't go up that way today, just in case. Mind you, I could go tomorrow... But the weather warning is still out... So who knows?
  17. Given Ian's forecast, I'm glad I changed my mind about going Telford from here tomorrow or Weds. Trouble is, given the uncertainties of the longer range outlook, I'm not sure when I *will* be able to drive up there!
  18. So, Tuesday/Wednesday it not a good day for making a journey from Wiltshire to Telford? Rain in Westbury, and then as soon as I cross the M4 and head towards Stroud, snow. Then, as I follow the M5 up towards Worcester, cars sliding everywhere. And then as I head out onto the hills outside Kidderminster towards Bridgnorth, I'll be trapped in snowdrifts. Best not go then Cheers Steve
  19. Err, it's doing something here. Let me examine it more closely... It's just stopped. Looked like a very fine sleety rain.
  20. Still snowing in Westbury - light, but persistent - will add a few mms to our total. Must be nearly... ooh... quarter of an inch deep by now. Still, looks very sweet.
  21. Snowing very lightly in Westbury (and Tidworth is only 17 miles over the Plain, grrr).
  22. It's been snowing here in Westbury for a little while without me noticing. Not even a centimetre lying, I should think, but enough to give a covering, and to look.... well... sweet. :o Clear sky and still snowing, so I guess the cloud has now passed on by to a quarter I can't see, and it'll soon stop.
  23. That would explain the clouds I can see to my West then (okay, south west!)
