  1. There's some absolutely lovely cloud tops to my west, visible from here in Westbury. Is nobody getting some form of "wintry mix" from them?
  2. It simply can't snow in bucketloads until I've got the insurance certificate so I can tax my new (s/h) Legacy!
  3. West Wiltshire is having but the finest and lightest of drizzles. (If you want to be optimistic, it is *so* fine, and *so* light, it could be snizzle - I won't be able to tell until I go out in the car. Ah, the car windscreen - the finest instrument for differentiating snow from sleet and snizzle from drizzle... Better than a lamp-post, I say...)
  4. Up here in Chippenham, Andy, I'm in a nice sunny spot between clouds and I must say there are some spectacular looking cloulds around. Surprised it's not raining over you, looking from here, but I guess that with the clouds so big it's difficult to judge their distance. Nonetheless, there's a lovely anvil to the west which must be giving some rain to somebody. Cheers Steve
  5. Saw this lovely thing on the way back from Telford. Stopped at the garage at the roundabout for Shifnal (just for the locals) and just had to take some snaps. Somebody must have had some rain beneath this lovely pair:
  6. No, you'll be never react quickly enough. It'll be over before you've finished pressing the button. You just have to open the shutter, and hope, open the shutter and hope, and so on B)
  7. Right - thunderstormogenesis: (two of the pix are in the wrong order, but you get the drift  ) (and apologies for first two out of focus, forgot I'd switched the camera to manual focus last time I used it!)
  8. Sorry, I shoot RAW, will take some editing
  9. Yo! Due to all the excitement on here I went up the Horse about an hour ago and took shots of that big tower with the (eventual!) anvil. It's a lot of pix. Just about to have a look at them and see what I got. When I get on top of the Horse, I get completely confused as to direction so don't know where I was looking. It was a good cloud though, nice development.
  10. Well, those photos were rubbish - couldn't anything in the LCD so just pointed randomly. Urk. Think I'll go to sleep now, with about two crunchy inches here in Westbury town (if I still had a Range Rover, the Plains would be good, huh?) Hope it's not washed away on the morrow...
  11. Yep, still snowing moderately here too. Tyre tracks almost completely disappeared now Off to take a photo outside, nothing exciting, but hey, why not?
  12. Yup, snowing moderately here again, and the tyre tracks I left going fag-wise are beginning to disappear. What part of Wiltshire, Karl?
  13. My car thermometer was showing just on 0 all the way there and back again. Mr McElwee didn't opine on when it would die out/turn to rain. Just suggested that it wouldn't be there for long in the morning. Still, take heart - it's not like the weather forecasts have been entirely accurate this week!
  14. Just been for a drive to get some fags from the local 24hr garage (Yarnbrook for locals). About an inch of snow on my drive. A350 is so slushy I wouldn't drive at more than about 24mph, even if some youth were more confident than I. Heard Rob Mc on Radio 5 on way back. He's confident on 20cms (8 inches) for favoured parts of the West Country, but still thinks it will turn to rain. He thought that if you wanted to play in the snow during the day, the Midlands would be a better bet.
  15. Yes, my crazy head suggests I go and take a picture of the Cement Works, my sensible head tells me Wiltshire is short of grit. I suspect the Bratton road is not top priority...
  16. Now some proper snow. That's 22.00-ish, mid-west-Wilts. Get your calculator out Dogs
  17. Are you lamp post watching, Andy? Just got in from my drive from Chippenham, very light snow has started to fall.
  18. It's not even precipitating in Chippenham (northish).
  19. Just been playing with some pics, so just arrived here for an update, or to update Snow is now falling lightly in West Wilts after some pretty hefty lumps of it. The snow isn't particularly deep - I'd go with Andy Bowen's estimate in this or another thread of 3cms or so. Still, having had little for so long, it still looks good.
  20. No probs. When you find cameras that work around Junctions 7,8 and 9, (of the M25, that is) it brings a whole new meaning to "lamp post watching".
  21. And I can say without fear of contradiction, that it is snowing near Leatherhead these cameras are great! What a time waster! I should be asleep...
  22. Well, that's weird. I have all the icons you posted, and then the very last one, all by itself at the bottom of the list is "Traffic Cameras". I must be special You are on a page where it says Current Motorway Information, right?
  23. where are you Mr Rain Rain Rain? I did have right proper snow flakes here for a while...
