  1. Site communication from our office:

    Dear Leatherhead colleagues,

The Met Office are forecasting snow overnight tonight, continuing to tomorrow morning and possibly throughout Friday. Gritting will happen on site tonight and we will continue to monitor conditions. We do not currently anticipate issues with accessing site tomorrow and expect Leatherhead to be open as normal.

I'm 10mins from Leatherhead and Meto site now showing light to heavy back to light snow overnight. But clearly they not expecting loads cos no warnings? What about if a Thames streamer joins in? Or is this a Thames streamer?!!x

  2. Omg! Having been a bit snowed out and seeing yesterdays snow forecast there one minute and completely gone the next, I didnt pay much attention to "possible snow flurries"...been busy all day, had a random flick thru the blinds and BOOM heavy snow! Lots of it, big old flakes! Checked Meto and says heavy snow until 9pm then SLEET (at -1c?!) then back to light snow until 3am?!!

    What's the radar saying peeps?!x

Thanx for that, would love to go to Colley Hill but probably a bit of a trek on dodgy winter roads - def for tomorrow while its actually snowing! Been to Leith Hill a few times (beautiful!) but never in the snow - not sure anyone would be able to get there?! Preserved for the lucky ones who live within walking distance!x

Hello WG, Colley Hill is ok to get to as Reigate Hill car park is right next to the M25 though it was very icy there today and I had to back out of the car park the wrong way becuase of the snow! If you can get to Leith Hill through the snow it's the best around here I think. The car parks are lower down (Landslip car park is my fave) and then it's a great walk up in the snow. I remember taking my eldest (now nearly 16) one morning when he was about 4, driving from SW London where we lived at the time and where there was nothing but rain. I had a feeling there would be snow down there and sure enough there was about 6 inches, it was the first time he had seen snow. We got out of the car and there was one other person there, an elderly lady with a dog, and she said 'what are you doing here?'. I said that we had come to be in the snow and she replied 'it's good to know there are still people with a soul'. We walked up to the summit through an Alpine landscape like pioneers through a virgin landscape. I will never forget it.

Aww AS, that's a lovely story! Bet it looked beautiful! Does your son still remember it, I hope so, what a lovely memory to give a child! And u put me to shame driving from SW London when im probably only 20min away, lol! Would be amazing to see! Yeh guess M25 wud be ok to Reigate Hill! We do live in a lovely part of the world, eh?!x

  4. hi WG, you can drive to Reigate hill carpark, head west about 1/2 mile on foot, then you are out in the wilds (sort of!). It's not an actual bombhole but all around there is fab. Not as good as Leith Hill though, but that's more of a trek to get to. Have you been there?

  5. Compacted powder snow at 230m on Colley Hill today, the bombhole perfect for sledging. High up in the Surrey Hills, a grey-white mist kept me peering into the distance to spot the usual landmarks as smoke from chimneys 150 vertical metres below at the foot of the escarpment was carried away towards the Azores. There is something special about the squeaking that comes from boots on powder snow, winter mountaineering in Scotland, walking in the Alps in September and one again, I can add to the list, the North Downs after proper snowfall.

Love that sounds of crunching powder snow under me snowboots! Sledging on Epsom Downs was good too - will look up Colley Hill!x

  6. Indeed, and considering that's Alex 'at leiast it will be mild' Deakin, a very good forecast!

My concern now is not tomorrow (it will snow) or Monday (it'll be freezing!) but Tuesday - I don't want it to sleet or rain... Much like Steve!

Yes I've been seeing sleet/rain/sleet for Tues on the Meto site....maybe if we get our double hit of snow tomorrow then it'll drop temps a bit?!x

  7. Right before people slash wrists. As it stands. Taking into account all model output at 12z.

ALL of the region to see snow tomorrow.

More in the east, less in the west.

Very little, if any marginality right down to the sand castles on the beaches.

Snow to arrive approx 09:00hrs from the SE.

Looks to be a good 8-10 hours of snowfall

Depths (rough) 2-5cm in the West and 6-8cm in the East.

Thanku v much for this, was getting a bit confused with all the post 12z aftermath! Still hoping for a mere nudge west to get me in the heavier stuff!x

  8. Morning boys n girls - gotta laugh or ill cry my poor little man is wearing his new snow suit and is playing out the front in a 0mm icing sugar dusting he asked if we could go sledging later errrrrr so come on mr snow from the south of Sunday just one small request to see my boy smiling again just one big big heavy downpour then you can jog on and let spring commence!!!!!

Aww that's so sad! My kids were disappointed on Mon when Kent had their turn and we missed out....surely every area will get something at some point the rate this cold is going?!! Good luck for tomorrow!x

  9. Still lookin nice n snowy outside here in Epsom, I'm not sure exactly when it fell but def had some more late arvo/eve cos the table outside is covered again which was scraped clean of snow when playing yesterday!

I'm a bit confused by some posts tgis morn and dont have time to read back ppaaaaaaages (kids wanna get out on sledges again!) so what's happening in Surrey for snow tomorrow?! Looks good but poss marginal? Do I believe tv weather forecasts?! If so, any estimations on inch-age?

    Thanku!x
