  1. Do you know ive that gut feeling that we are all going to have a big shock today with this system.. ok last night i got a dusting, but none of it is melting so the temps are right, ok we got cloud cover and no slightly warm sunrays to thaw this slight covering of snow, but if this remained the case wouldnt this cover also act to like a fridge and keep the dewpoints down etc so when the next band hits it keeps it as snow all the way through??

This is what I've been wondering.....hoping could happen?!!

  2. Thanks dude....guess it's what we;re all hoping for tonight clapping.gif

I was gonna say the same, your sig definitely sums up how a lot of us feel about snow - I for one won't be sitting up late watching radars/lamposts, half the fun for me is going to bed and waking like a kid on xmas morning to look out the window - will never forget the scene or my gasp in 2010!!!!

  3. Thanks John for the posts!good.gif I look forward to more. Hopefully, we down here can also get in on the action down the line.... I just hating reading "north of the M4" or "higher elevations". Makes me mad I tell yablum.gif

Me too!!!! Can't wait to hear "widespread" "low level" "worst of the weather in the south eastern corner for some days to come" (worst from weathermen, BEST for us types, lol!!

  4. Correct me if I'm wrong cos I am as amateur as they come but....

When I joined this forum last yr I quickly learnt from posts that the UKMO shouldn't be trusted, that the Meto forecasts were useless (fair enough, bad track record up to then) So when they showed consistent Mild, people ignored them in favour of the odd flickers of hope we got from ecm/gfs.

It then transpired that the UKMO/Meto had been right all along and all we did get was mild....until they correctly predicted the "turning colder/snow" that we got layer on??!!

So maybe we should have more faith in UKMO?

As I said, I may not know what I'm talking about but pls don't shoot me down, just wanted to know if my memory serves me correctly?!!

    Ta!x

  5. Yes I remember being out walking like it was Spring last Feb - was lovely after all the cold we'd had and by this time I'm always well ready for some sunnier warmer weather!

Also remember the snow on 6th April 2008 because I was trying to walk in it with my crazy 17mth old while heavily pregnant with my second baby (fun!), born just a mth later when it was BAKING!

Gotta love our bizarre contrasts in weather, eh?!x

  6. So does anyone actually know of an official LRF that's been done for spring? Either an expert on here or a blogger or another site?! Would be really interested to read of one that been done using some scientific knowledge and research? Or for some to just tell me its going to be a warm and glorious Spring, lol!

  7. Back in Nov, a month before Winter, all the "professional" forecasting sites and blogging amateurs were all doing their long term forecasts for the coming winter.... Does anyone on here (pre other sites) do their LRF for Spring?!

I'm now starting to get that feeling for NEEDING some warmer and longer days! Really want to read some thoughts on it because there were a couple of people on here that got Winter nearly spot on!

    Thanks!

  8. More snow than Sat nites efforts.... BUT - roads clear so no snow day :( !! Guess its all the salt that's been about all week - even tho my little cul-de-sac wasn't salted, its been brought up here by all the cars wheels etc.... Still, it looks lovely out there but I'm still poorly so not sure I'll be able to go out to enjoy it :( ....but hopefully it'll hang around for tom when I may feel better and kids here too to enjoy it!x

  9. I thought this "snow" was supposed to be worst in Midlands then coming down here with a now swing to east....just checked radar and latest Ob's on Meto site and everything is falling as rain at the mo - was that forecast? Maybe changing to snow later when temps drop at nite?! Does look v eastward bound too?!

I've not been v well so haven't read thru pages on this or MOD thread so is what I've said above what has been recently forecast or is it just completely different?!

  10. Haven't actually measured but would say about 4cm and moderately snowing now but with fairly small flakes. Been windy since it started at 6pm tho, blowing about a fair bit! Just checked Meto rainfall radar and looking to get bit heavier over next few hrs...guesssing we cud have about 8cm by morn if stays mod/heavy for next few hrs....just off to beddy-byes now so all shall be revealed come dawn!
