can we compare charts for 98 and tom ?

I think its most certainly possible. I think the 105mph was recorded at Prestwick where there were some planes flipped over, but there were higher gusts farther inland and higher up.
From the met office the highest gusts around Prestwick is 86mph, which seems to be the highest they give for Ayrshire, but as prestwick is right on the coast Id say the gust will be higher still than that.
yeah it was a mess. wait and see i guess. a bit diffrent as people, kids etc are still going to be out and about!!!!

hi guys, im still learning as i go and would like someones views on when the storm will hit west scotland and will it dip away then winds pick up again when it changes direction. any help would be much appriciated x

It doesn't get much worse than this, 18z tomorrow, Western Scotland, Northern Ireland, SW Scotland and NW England. Mean speeds 55-70mph with gusts of 80-100mph.

Places like Ayr, Oban etc could have av. wind speeds of 50 with gusts upto 95/ 100. This looks like it will be around for 6/9hrs. Surprised met have not gone at least orange for their warning on this.
