Following the coldest night of the winter all areas of the West Midlands suffered power cuts this morning as the demand for electricity soared.......... ......Throughout Britain road conditions were rendered extremely hazardous. The intensely cold night - 13 degrees of frost were recorded at Shawbury, Salop - resulted in mist, thick fog, snow and ice. Coldest night and power cuts (Dec 19 1955) Express & Star I'm not sure if they used Centigrade in those days. If that's fahrenheit above then that's -25C Brrrrrrr.

Now why didnt I think of that? If I had a brain I'd be dangerous! :unsure:

Minus 2 around dawn this morning with patchy thick mist. Ground frost had started to appear before midnight last night.

07:45 this morning Minus 3C 1008 mb slowly falling Clear Blue skies Some low lying light mist. Black ice and frozen slush on untreated roads.

The snow has been on and off here for a while. It starts to stick but when the falls become light the lying snow then melts. Consequently we have very little lying snow at the moment. Temperatures need to drop and/or the falls need to be more intense and prolonged for any accumulation to build up. EDIT: Temperature between 2C & 3C (car thermometer!!)

No snow at home this morning. Travelled south down the M5, some lying from approx Evesham/Worcester onwards. Approx 1-2cm up on the Cotswolds at Birdlip and lying all the way to Swindon. No snow after Newbury along M4 and the place where it never snows... Reading... NO snow!

First snow of the season here. Only light flurries and sky well broken so nothing much to speak of.

Front looks to be clearing here also. First time I've seen blue skies for a few days! EDIT: Spoke too soon. Update at 1:30pm - Blustery showers from leaden skies. Pressure fallen to 1010

+8C 1019 falling Light westerly wind Cloudy, grey & damp.

Noticeable change since this morning. Pressure has fallen from 1038 to 1034 and although its 1C warmer at 4C a cold wind has begun to kick in from the NW.

Dull cloudy morning with +3C at 7:45am and 1038mb steady.
