Went through a phase of being terrified of thunderstorms about 6 years ago. It was very strange as storms had never affected me like that in the past and I was always excited by them.
Once I knew a storm was approaching I would remove all jewellry, turn all electricity off (if alone I would turn all power off by the trip switch under the stairs!) unplug aerials. I'd also find it difficult to know where to remain at night, I could not sit/sleep under a light or near a socket. Near windows or metal objects - in the end there was nowhere that I felt safe! Also not knowing where was safest, upstairs or down. I would even put my trainers on. Had been known to sit in the wardrobe in the wall (lol). I wanted to try putting headphones on but was worried that this might be dangerous! Continually pacing up and down and fidgety.
I was gradually able to sit in the car and watch storms and watch them through the window from my bed at night.

Its been worrying as we have a house and family right there in Folkestone. Been on the phone to the local shopkeeper who went to look at the house for us, apparently our street is closed and few chimneys down although the next street has most chimneys down and someone died from shock. Seen pics of the nearby streets on the news.

Awoke to a light covering of snow this morning here in Brighton unfortunately it was gone by 9am or so. A few hail and sleet showers during the day.

Looked out just before 6am this morning (Thurs 8/2) and the lovely covering of snow was starting to melt already, I could hear the dreaded drip drip sound. By 9am it was all slush on the higher ground where I live. Once at work near Hove seafront by 9.30am there was no evidence of any snow at all.

Was pleased to wake up to a covering of snow on Weds morning enough to make a little snow man and to see cars sliding around on the road or trying to get up a hilll, wheels just spinning! Taking little one to school was a lovely experience with all the local children throwing snowballs at each other and more than usual walking to school - snow creates such a magical atmosphere. It brought back memories of my childhood snow We also walked to school through the local woods and it was so beautiful and peaceful, the snowy silence. Shame it didn't last the day though! Then awoke to a little dust of snow this morning which was nice. Shame I didn't catch any of it falling though! Must get some kind of snow alert alarm to wake me up - or perhaps NW do that with the text alert thing.
I also love reading everyone else's experiences and seeing their pics on here! Looking forward to the next x

Thanks Wibs, only asked as I took this photo today and would like to enter it. I was surprised to see one out so late in the year and am pleased with how the photo came out.
Lovely picture. I had 5 flying about me in my garden yesterday, beautiful.

Had a mini-tornado here earlier and have just had some unbelievably heavy rain complete with gusts, thunder and lightning - totally mad at the moment!!
Yes, it was mad! Strong gusts and a couple of overhead strikes. Shame I missed the tornado in Brighton earlier today http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/souther...ies/5396508.stm
