  1. I have a horrible feeling that this will be the year that 40C is breached somewhere in the UK
  2. I've really enjoyed the weather of recent days. A fresh oasis in the desert of warmth that is 2017.
  3. Ah the icicles! I have a photo of a huge icicle (perhaps 3' long) hanging off a pub lantern, I'll have to dig it up. March 2013 was also great for icicles back in Chelmsford, hanging from roofs and cars in large numbers, and that was all during a period when the days were longer than the nights.
  4. First 11C year ever, here we come.
  5. Doesn't look like we'll hit 30C, Lossiemouth seems to be on it's way down now after hitting 29C.
  6. 16C. It's becoming more and more common for me now to think that the 2009-2013 period may have been the last of its kind, and that saddens me. Would absolutely love it if June went sub-13C but part of me thinks that that is impossible now. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what effects the next solar minimum has.
  7. Do you mean for Scotland exclusively? For the UK as a whole, 9th April was warmer, got to 25C in places.
  8. May I ask exactly what it is you mean by "Winter Knee-Jerk Syndrome"?
  9. I seriously hope this northern blocking comes off, unusually cool for the time of year. I do however suspect that it will be downgraded.
  10. No, November 2016 was quite a bit below average. Great month.
  11. It's days like these that I love April for. I've seen sunshine, rain, hail, sleet, snow, some brilliant convective cloudscapes, and also heard thunder today. Definitely my favourite month after December.
  12. Well I want the coldest May on record so I'll go for 15C in the hope that I'm catastrophically wrong.
  13. See I just love seeing snow, whether it's settling or not. If it's falling from the sky and I can walk through it I'm happy.
  14. I personally welcome wintry weather at any time of year. If we can get some snow falling at the end of April that would be lovely.
  15. Provisionally, the period 1st March to 15th April has come in at 8.94C, beating the previous record set in 1957. We'd need downward corrections of 0.3C on each day from the 1st to the 15th of April for us to tie with 1957.
  16. In Brum we had heavy snow for a couple of hours during the evening of the 26th. Settled in the Lickeys a couple of miles away. The final week of April 2016 was 8th coldest on record (CET) IIRC.
  17. Provisionally, I make the CET mean for 1/3 to 8/4 to be 8.80C. The warmest first half of Spring on record (1/3 to 15/4) was in 1957 at 8.85C. Currently we're in second. Other warm years include 1945 (8.71C) and 1779 (8.49C) (the late 1940s and the 1770s featured a lot of Spring warmth), as well as 1938 (8.67C), 1961 (8.55C), and the more recent years of 1997 (8.66C) and 2014 (8.43C).
  18. And, as out of place as it sounds, only four years after the coldest Spring in 122 years.
  19. Looks like my repeated very low guesses are failing miserably. Let's go for something different, how about second warmest on record? 11.6C please.
