  1. Some Autumnal snow in Scotland: http://m.lecht.co.uk/zooms.php
  2. Leaves are finally starting to fall in large numbers now which is brilliant, and much earlier than last year. The oak tree in front of my house last year still had plenty of green leaves in December!
  3. Now you mention it I think I do remember that, was it late on in June?
  4. I remember blood rain falling here before, it didn't have any colour to it but it left behind a load of dust and fine sandy stuff on the cars. I also remember dust just settling on stuff without any rain, I think that was last March although I can't quite remember. It's nothing spectacular, would be cool if we had some really orangy blood rain though.
  5. Milder start, colder end - 6.3C please.
  6. Thanks for clearing that up, and thanks for the link, really fascinating stuff!
  7. Quick question to anyone who knows, what's the difference between a positive and negative mountain torque event? I understand what MT's are and how they can effect Rossby waves (deflection towards the polar strat and possible wavebreaking, or just dispersion at lower latitudes), but what is the significance of positive and nagative values? Thanks.
  8. Looks excellent for Western Russia and Scandinavia, those lows should really deliver the goods!
  9. I would have been interested you know, I guess I'll have to look elsewhere now.

  11. Not being able to tell the difference between large deer and small dogs would be good. Or just something like this
  12. I don't think it requires any kind of temperature profile, just UV radiation, perhaps someone could clarify? Here's a link to an article containing info with regards to the creation of ozone in the tropical stratosphere: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozone-oxygen_cycle
  13. Yes, never thought of it like that, a brief increase in strength does seem logical, then possibly a quick turnaround when the ozone makes it to the Arctic.
  14. I'm no expert, but the SSW down south has me thinking the BDC was working in overdrive towards the south pole for a while (would explain anomalously low ozone levels at the north pole). But perhaps now things are changing, as these short warmings are popping up, perhaps a strengthening in the BDC towards the Arctic? Will have to keep watching the ozone forecasts. EDIT: Also, Perhaps the Asian MT event could help to introduce some wavebreaking into the stratosphere which may aid ozone transportation (I think, still learning).
  15. I know, it's a real shame. There is so much potential variety with Autumn, 20C above and occasionally below 0 can occur in Autumn. Frost, snow, sunshine, warmth, high winds, rain, etc. And the colours are stunning, either When glazed in frost or looking golden under sunshine. I have to agree with Aaron, I think the lack of exciting weather is the problem at the moment, no Autumn storms!
  16. Does this site include anomaly maps as I can't seem to find them?
  17. Sorry to be a pain but could you give me a link to the web site that provides the NH snow anomaly maps shown in your animation please, can't seem to find them. Thanks.
  18. Yes, previous analogues of the PDO show all of the aformentioned happening.
  19. Maybe in July 2043, but until then it looks as if permanent heat exceeding 1000000C will be the prevailing weather pattern, whilst everywhere else will either be dead, overrun by aliens, or covered by 437feet of snow (except Tristan da Cunha of course, and possibly parts of Lietchenstein as well).
  20. Here is my forecast for Winter 2012/13: December: the coldest ever, the average temperature will be -500C (yes, that's right, lower than physics will allow), and everywhere in the world except Tristan da Cunha will be under 437feet of snow. Aliens will invade and we will all die. January: mildest ever, Ronald McDonald will resurrect everyone from the dead, (except for Colonel Kentucky), and then Yellowstone will erupt and an asteroid the size of London will hit Earth simultaneously because of global warming. Everyone will die except for Homer Simpson who happens to walk into a bomb shelter at the time of the event. February: average, with some colder shots at times. Homer gives birth to 7 billion humans and repopulates the Earth again, before spontaneously combusting. Unfortunately, monkeys take over Earth and some beef happens with them and the humans, before Earth implodes on itself. The NOAA term this an extreme weather event because of rising CO2 levels. Then, all the world leaders will turn into lizards and travel through a wormhole to Gliese 581c where they live happily ever after. Meanwhile, the Sun supernovas and everyone dies, again. Is this a good forecast? Better than James Maddens' perhaps?
  21. Would too! But a warm Summer would be nice as well. When it comes to Summer I like everything; warm, sunny, stormy, torrential downpours, etc. Here is what I would really like, 6 foot of snow, temperatures of -40C, and a bitter wind, but only in the morning. Then, in the afternoon, I would like 25C, sunny, calm, followed by a supercell pelting us with hailstones the size of elephants. It hasn't happened in my lifetime yet, but one day...
