  1. Interesting. I'm guessing, were this to come off, it would be the first time since January 2010 to December 2010 that a sub 9C rolling figure would have been achieved. The last time for this to happen before 2010 must have been many years back, so to see it happen twice in a short space of time would indicate to me that perhaps the UK is entering some kind of cooling phase? Only time will tell.
  2. It will be interesting to see what the 12 month rolling CET looks like after January, once we've passed the run of really mild months that we had from September last year into January this year. Could easily be sub 10C if th current pattern continues, with only March being a large margin above average. A lot of if's involved though.
  3. Not an air or ground frost here yet, but that is to be expected in this area of the country. First ground frost here last year was mid October with 1.6C and 0.9C recorded on two consecutive mornings, with the first air frost, believe it or not, on the 29th of November, showing just how mild last Autumn was. We saw another air frost on the 31st, so meteorological Autumn 2011 saw a total of two air frosts! It looks like we could see more than that here before October is out, with 2 or 3C occurring frequently at the moment, and things set to get steadily cooler.
  4. Wow, that's pretty impressive! About walking in Autumn, it truly is wonderful! When your up early, walking through a forest or wood with the frosted leaves crunching underfoot and the sunshine on your face. What more could you ask for!
  5. It seems my guess of 10.4C is looking alright then! Personally I think I've gone too high, I can't see any real warmth taking hold. A sub 9C October would be pretty awesome.
  6. I think it seems rather odd too, if CO2 was having an effect then shouldn't the temperature line steadily rise above the AMO+PDO line as an added warming effect? Why would it be only now that the warming CO2 effect is kicking into gear? (Sorry if this is off topic)
  7. The snowcover has done pretty well in the last few days, hope it stays this way. Can't wait for the first pixel to appear over Scotland
  8. Shouldn't it be 7 per decade? I was under the impression that they happen approximately once every two years. Thanks as well Sebastian.
  9. I realise this, I think I was having a bit of a brain fart when I posted as I meant to say 120+ forecasts for strat ozone levels. I've done a lot of searching but it appears as though the BDC is not measured in anyway, I was also after a dataset of values after failing to find one myself, but this doesn't exist so not to worry, ignore my last post.
  10. Sorry to be a bother, but has anyone any links to some past BDC data, as well as forecasts that go beyond 120 hours for the BDC (if there are any)? I've tried looking through the links on the Chiono's first post but I can't seem to find anything, unless I've missed something? Thanks.
  11. I suppose a polar low could trigger some snowfalls if it comes into contact with the high pressure.
  12. Where does the 2nd half of September rank in terms of the coldest in the last 100 years? One of the models was saying it may end up falling in the top 5 coldest, it would be interesting to see if this came off.
  13. Excellent, really looking forward to this thread! It was too technical for me last year but I will have a better grip this year as my knowledge has improved greatly since then. Thanks to Chionomaniac and all those who will contribute to this thread through the Autumn and Winter. It will be brilliant reading!
  14. Looks as if my 13.6C has slipped away... Oh well, at least we may be in with a chance of this triple whammy.
  15. I don't have the stats, but I'm sure it's likely to be January 1795 with a CET of -3.1C. Perhaps someone could clarify?
  16. I won't make a prediction yet, but I'm hoping we get a good mixture of stormy periods and frosty periods. My perfect month would be a mild, stormy start, then followed by a calmer, colder finish.
  17. It was almost directly above me, I'd say maybe 10 degrees to the north east from directly above my head. I'm sure it wasn't Venus because there were still a couple of other stars about after it vanished (most had gone though), so Venus must have still been visible.
  18. But that's the problem, it was there for at least 5 minutes (from when I first noticed it to when it disappeared), it could have been there for hours. Is it possible a satellite could reflect light onto my position for 5 minutes or more? The other thing about it was that it was about 7 in the morning, with it being nearly fully light (I saw it earlier this year), and it was one of the brightest things in the sky. Are these reflections normally this bright?
  19. I went bang on average with 13.6C, but I think that's too high. I shouldn't be too far off though. If people could guess after the first week I doubt anyone would have said below 14C, but this is looking almost certain now.
  20. I've seen this before, a star that just vanishes in a matter of seconds. I did some research on it and apparently it's likely to be space junk burning up in the atmosphere. Seems odd though that the one I saw was stationary with no tale or anything like that though, it just disappeared.
