  1. Just a dusting so far here in north Meath from a brief but heavy snow shower around 11pm. Hopefully see allot more by morning. I think allot of areas are going to do very well from this, looking at the infra red satellites you can see all the showers stacked in the Atlantic and all they have to do is keep charging eastwards. Hope you all wake up to a dumpfestshok.gif .....yahoo.gif

  2. All the snow in my parts melted, albeit just a light covering to begin with. I was taken by surprise when it turned to rain at about 3pm yesterday. I was expecting rain earlier on, increasingly turning to snow as the day wore on. Just goes to show the difficulty in forecasting these setups.Hopefully we see at least a covering put down in many parts over the next 24hrs, this might help lower temps and increase chances of further snowfall with tomorrow nights front. If it crosses over us??? Still allot of uncertainty about this, any thoughts from the more experienced would be much appreciated. Happy radar watchingsorry.gif

  3. My first post on the regional thread and have to say it's been more than exciting reading through all previous posts. This thread rarely sees such excitement. Oh and thanks Nialler for the "Sky +" incident, my heart near stopped after reading thatrofl.gif . All n all though tomorrow looking great for you guys up north, I wish yous all the best and hope it all goes as expected. For me in north Meath it's a now cast situation, all down to where that rain/snow line ends up but I'm optimistic. Scenarios like this are very difficult to pin down with precision and its likely the snow could extend further than predicted but just as likely to go the other way. Whatever the outcome it's been an epic week of model watching (and lurking)and it's far from over.

Anyway time to TRY get some sleep, anticipation has me wired and the noise of the wind and rain isn't helping much. Best of luck to all and stay safegood.gif

  4. It's still early to say but it so far seems to be trending towards cooler times. If Big Joe B's predictions prove correct then it's just the beginning. I was signed up to Weatherbell last winter (2011/2012) and he regularly spoke about how the negative PDO would cool things down and also warned that the worst has yet to come with the AMO going negative. which he predicts will happen within the next four/five years. A cold Atlantic/Pacific could put us back to 70s/80s style winters and hopefully summers. Also worth noting last year Joe B was calling for this winter to be a beast and next winter to be worse. He said last winter would be relatively mild so on the money there and the next few weeks should tell of this winter but so far looking good.

  5. "WEDNESDAY ... Showers and a few thunderstorms developing, risk of a severe storm from about Sligo to Dublin with slight tornadic risk, strong wind gusts, and hail. Rainfalls 10-20 mms in many parts but could be less near southwest coast. Heavier rainfalls in a few intense cells, this will have to be handled from radar, but in theory, around Athlone towards Kildare. Highs about 17-19 C. Winds WSW 20-35 mph veering later to WNW."

The above quote comes from the "Irish Weather Online" Facebook page and their usually pretty accurate. clap.gif Starting to get quite excited now as I'm in the potential zone but I guess it will be down to luck as much as anything else. I'll be sleeping with my fingers crossed tonight I think good.gif

  6. Seems to me whilst for summer lovers there isn't much in the way of clear sunny skies, 25oc+ weather at the moment, that on the flip side there's a chance for thunderstorms in 90% of the UK, pretty much everyday for the next 7 or 8 days. I no we're in the aftermath of a big, big event (the biggest in my 21 year life personally) and its going to be hard to compare anything to that, but if last week hadn't occured, I think this place would perhaps not be buzzing but would be 'busy' with excitement. These are good solid storm charts ladies and gentlemen. So they aren't perfect, but life isn't. Take the good with the bad IMO and enjoy the storms (that we dont usually see).

Totally agree Radders, I'm personally very excited about this weekbiggrin.png Every day showing good potential, Friday especially(if the current output sticks) and I'm off workyahoo.gif You just never know your luck, for example earlier today (yesterday) as I was driving, I looked up at an overhead cell and caught a glimpse of the one and only lightning strike in my area all day. It was a pretty week unimpressive IC strike but a strike none the less. Couldn't believe my luck!!! My first bit of action so far this year and hopefully a taste of whats to come.clap.gif Best of luck to all this week.

  7. BBC news forecast mentioned the risk of thunderstorms breaking out in areas such as Wales, the Midlands and the SW tomorrow afternoon, interesting as the GFS shows very little CAPE down here. It seems the BBC have discovered the word 'thunderstorm' unlike the forecasts I saw for last Thursday! rolleyes.gif

Yeah Met Eireann also seem to have changed their tune towards thunder, forecasting potential for tomorrow, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday! It's rare that they even mention the word. Perhaps this is the week I finally get a storm. Quite confident about tomorrow with GFS showing lots of potential. Hopefully not too much cloud about to hamper convection.unsure.png

  8. I think the consistently negative NAO we've been seeing for the last few months is leading to this Atlantic driven pattern. Like clock work for the past four weeks we've been seeing strong lows pushing through at the end of every week, bringing high rainfall totals followed by a showery regime. Here in Ireland we haven't had a break, my lawns been nothing more than a swampy marshland.

There are signs of improvement so fingers crossed.unsure.png
