really persistent heavy shower here just gone. Another cell looks to be quite potent and building over Milton Keynes/Northampton area, keeping my eye on that one. Winds have subsided and its beginning to feel quite humid with a temp of around 20c with dew point of 16c. This evening could well turn out quite interesting i reckon!

Will be keeping my eye on these showers as they track NE

That Isle of Wight photo looks like Florida!
If only it was !!! Hierarchy of that is, is that is such a disguised looking photo, because that English Channel has killed more storms than I've had hot dinners!

If only we got scenes more often like this in the UK !
(3rd picture along showing a giant cb over Canadian Rockies)

Some activity looks to have exploded over the Cherbourg peninsula, wonder if that will maintain its intensity and move up over the East Mids during this late evening ?

Something exciting clipping East Anglia at the minute

Saturday and Sunday are looking like they could be pretty good for a possible storm.
-
Yet again Peterborough misses the showers on this direct West wind! They just all seem to travel along the A14 corridor on this type of setup. We seem to get the showers more often on a Southwesterly.
-
Wahey! Thunder and lightening, wasn't expecting this so late in the day.
God I thought you would have! It looked blacker than the ace of spades down South of Peterborough!
-
Think that's about it for us today. Sun is losing its strength rapidly and the main trough has cleared through. Can't complain as we did have a thundery shower with a few rumbles. Looked very tasty down Suffolk and Essex way today though!
-
LOL, as luck would have me, the thunder died out as soon as it hit borough! Very heavy rain and strong winds though. Don't know if there will be any more on the cards, a few more small cells out to the West of me, don't know if they will intensify or die out. We'll see.
-
Wow, big storm on the way, 4 claps of thunder in the distance xD

Interesting looking cluster looming around The Brum, will keep my eye on that closely as it moves East.

Cor, some brill towers sprouting up around me now!

We haven't had a night time storm here in at least 15 years now, yet during the 80's we had seemingly dozens of them?
Possibly an annoying shift in the upper atmosphere, as someone posted a clear demonstration of the UK as a whole getting lack of the cracking storms we used to get,due to the altering of the jet stream. Everything just seems to be diverted totally away from us now as the evermore frustrating jet stream grabs the storms and chucks them over Central Europe, instead of the strong Spanish plumes that pushed them directly N from Spain/France slap bang over us. I blame the Greenland high + the fast melting of Arctic ice.

Did a SI ever get carried out in Sleaford, Lincs after the June 28th event? From the footage I saw I wouldn't be surprised if the tornado that affected the region turned out to be just as strong as the Birmingham and Peterborough tornadoes in 2005, if not stronger.
Looked very similar in terms of its size. The damage was very minimal though, as it was much less densely populated in that area.
A reminder of the storms we used to get after a hot spell back in the 1990's. This was in Macclesfield, Cheshire!

Worst breakdown of hot weather yet, Its got to be said! I didnt even feel a single drop of rain ! Lets take the time to remember 'El Brumo', the best tornado to have ever stuck Britain 7 years ago today.
-
Well. As much as I hate having to moan, that was possibly the worst breakdown of hot weather I've ever seen! Not even a single drop of rain! Summer weather is just not the same anymore. If this was 10 years ago, there would have been dramatic exciting thunderstorms blitzing the country even as I speak now! Anyway lets remember the adrenaline for a few moments of the 7th anniversary of 'El Brumo', the best tornado the UK has ever seen yet since history began.

Yes remember many "all nighters" back in the 1980s. As a child i used to sleep on the window sill watching lightning all for hours on end. All we had was the bbc weather saying storms will spread up from the continent, it was so much simpler then lol
I know, back in mid 1990's I remember them saying there was going to be showers or longer spells of heavy rain, no thunder even mentioned! Go to sleep, wake up only by the loudest thunder I've ever heard! It scared the living daylights out of me, even though im a die hard fan of severe storms! We just seem to be a force-field these days, the last 10 times ive seen plumes from Spain, they just seem to be repelled badly from the SE corner.
-
Remember them days when the lot of that would be surging its way towards us. We're a far cry from that now by the looks of it
-
Remember storms are hit and miss, your chances are as good as anyone's...just not anyone in the UK
The weather pattern's here are just pants at the moment, how can you go from 31c to 20c and not get a big bang ! How lame :L
-
oh yeah just look at this
Good god, they are so lucky when it comes to storms ! Think I'm starting to veer towards the excitement of getting snow already, this summer just doesn't seem to have it in it to produce decent storms for the UK. I want winters here to be like those in Sweden and norway! This year maybe, as the models show it to be promising!
-
I think I'm going to emigrate as soon as i can from the UK ! Even when I went to Rhodes, SE Europe being one of driest parts of the continent, everyday of the week when I was there, some of the biggest and spectacular Cb's I'd ever seen just forming in an orderly queue in the same place every day at the same time over Turkey ! That made my holiday tbh more than the partying itself by a long shot! Some really good night anvil lightning witnessed too. We all need to get storm chasing over in the States, I know I'm saving right now for it!

If I could, I would fill in the bay of biscay from the tip of NW Spain all the way to Ireland + the English Channel, and then cover that entire surface black for the heat to be absorbed! Imagine the storms we'd all get then eh! Would be convective heaven.

Think I can hear rumbles from the cell to my SW. Looks to be pepping up nicely.
