Quite torrential rain in peterborough at the moment, thunder is a little too optimistic i think though.
-
Haven't had any thundery activity here today. Just a heavy shower, and now, its just what was a load of showers out west merged together, giving an area of rain -.-. Best stuff looks over Essex and into S suffolk.
-
Was looking stormy earlier here, then low-level cloud rolled in from the NE, upper wind direction is W-E though, wonder if that low cloud will fuel the development of these forecasted downpours tonight as it moved towards the midlands. We'll see.
-
Some towers died a death here a while ago, but some look to be popping up again N of Cambridge, heading in a NNW direction i think. Today has been a day though where promising looking storms have taken sharp turns west and have been killed. Argh if we had the absence of the cold north sea, and nothing but hot land to our east, we'd get some very beefy spectacular storms.
-
been out on a little chase, went through some surface flooding near to Stamford, Lincolnshire. Few lightning bolts too.
-
Yess ! I can confirm thunder ! at last.
-
Funnel cloud spotted, near Spalding, dissipated within 20 seconds !
-
Storm looks to be brewing E of Peterborough
-
Some very nice convective activity out there around me now. The trend is from SE to NW, although winds are all over the place tbh. Think i can see a decent, promising looking trouble maker developing over towards Norfolk/Suffolk area that could move up here. Im hoping for a cracker.

Morning all . Well as I speak, I can see some awesome looking cb's already, they've absolutely exploded up in the past half hour on my way back from work !
-
Couple of cells to south of Peterborough, hope they fire up and get sferics, not looking likely though !
-
Quite explosive Cb's shooting up to my west over Central London, they look great from the east!
Are they heading North? If so, Peterborough might actually be in for the first bit of decent thunder all year ! Its been poor here so far, a lot of missed opportunities this year.
-
Woke up to massive convective raindrops this morning, very persistent too. All I'm quite bewildered at is that rain pouring out the Low Countries, at 1AM before i went to bed, it was just pouring into Ipswich and the EA coast with rain pepping up over the N sea between them regions and Holland/Belgium. How the hell did that manage to get up over that massive stretch of water and get thundery over Yorkshire :S ! Someone please elaborate !
-
I know I sound like a broken record but I can't swee how this rain is going to effect northern England unless I'm missing something?
Yeah I agree, draw a line from the wash across just up from brum, they're the areas that will get affected i think below that line.
-
Yeah. Agreed with all of the above. Cambs may see the odd clap of thunder too, I'd say maybe N Herts/Beds aswell. Now all that stuff is making progress out of Belgium/Holland now, so we need to keep an eye on this. Still looks quite intense in some parts.
-
So the BBC look east and look north have been saying this Ex MCS moving in tonight will contain thunder. Gosh im confused! It really is touch and go with this one.
-
I dont think its as bad as some places, we did get at least 1 beast per year on this side of town (Hindley) with a couple of other thundery showers but year is shocking here if you like thunder , I think 2010 was the last decent year for here anyway, Oh how i remember the seventies with regular night lightning storms here, and they were still rumbling in the distance in the morning, I dont care what anyone says the climate has shifted, Never never get things like that now
I agree totally with you tbh mate. I remember always being woken by horrifically loud thunder and huge bright lightning flashes ! As I was little back then, I had the tendency to hide under my covers. Now I'm kicking myself every day for not embracing and making the most of them beast storms we used to import !
-
Yeah see what you mean, if it is its a lot earlier tan predicted by the models
Yeah ! Will be interesting how things turn out. because if the rest of that severe looking mess gets steered early, we could be seeing quite a bit of electrical activity i reckon, especially with less distance of cool water to get across.
-
Looks to me on the radar that things from Belgium are beginning to cross the N Sea already!
-
Surely this monster moving up tonight will give at least a bit of thunder, especially if its forecast to be further south now, as it wont be passing over much of the North Sea? Nevertheless, this looks like its going to be very interesting indeed.
-
It's absolutely hammering down here.
Think thats the same stuff that hit the other end of Lincs about 1hr30mins ago. looks to have intensified a bit.

Morning storm fans
Already some showers around this morning and its only 7am. Looking good from around 10am onwards for some lively storms i feel. I will be chasing today but unless i can get another in-car charger for my laptop i have only got about an hour and a half use of my laptop (which is a bit pants when I was planning a whole day out chasing storms).
I am in two minds atm. Do I head slightly NE into the convergence zone as it crosses N Yorkshire (York/Thirsk area) or NW towards the Yorkshire Dales and into Cumbria. My concern today though is that the best shear profiles are south of me but best CAPE is north and east. Wind convergence is to my SW (this using the NMM hi res). So much planning and guessing needed
Regarding tonight and tomorrows torrent. Does anyone know if this is going to be in the form of an MCS from the continent with T&L or is it just an area of heavy rain?
I think that will be a MCS definitely, due to the massive amount of humidity and moisture in that thing. Definitely a few strikes and a few rumbles will be heard within that, if everything goes to plan. CANT WAIT . Already I can see the radar showing lively storms over S and E France which will be pushing N and intensifying throughout the day.
-
Wow, that cell that moved out of N France and weakened over the Channel has now fired up a considerable amount near Buckinghamshire, MK area !
-
Did anyone see those storm cells over france? wow there were like mountains!
Saw them on Dover webcam, they looked fierce as hell ! Was there lightning visible in any of the anvils ?
