  1. Have had a great view of the Suffolk storm cloud from my back garden. The anvil is huge. Front is covered in mammatus, so would look spectacular underneath it and a long line of cumulus feeding into the back. Haven't seen any lighting though from this range. Thought I could see a cylindrical hail core at one stage.
  2. Well that was pretty cool. Had a ring-side seat of the storm that passed over me earlier moving east. Some spectacular lightning including multiple forks and, also rotation with scud being drawn up underneath.
  3. Sky looks very dark here with intermittent sun. Just had some shotgun thunder and CG lightning Lot of loud rumbles now.
  4. Torrential rain and a few rumbles of thunder here, no lightning seen yet though. Very big rain drops.
  5. Some nice big flashes in the white cloud tops earlier - looked awesome. Seems to have stopped now though.
  6. Didn't expect that today given the amount of cloud around. Best day time storm for a while. Plenty of lightning, thunder and spectacular cloudscapes. Can now see towering CBs at the back of the storm line, with flashes inside the clouds.
  7. Rain really picking up now with some big cgs and suitably noisey thunder. Looks like the worst bit may pass over the top of me.
  8. Plenty of rumbles outside now. Might venture out for a look. Saw a pretty spectacular cg near m11 earlier.
  9. Some big flashes east / south east of me atm. No thunder heard.
  10. In the dark can just make out a long curved shelf cloud coming over. Lit with an occasional flash.. very windy now also.
  11. Just a had a nice little cell pass close by. Unfortunately it had finished producing sferics but still photogenic with lots of mammatus cloud...
  12. Didn't hear any thunder today although there was some slightly further north of here. However, did have this pass over.....
  13. Just had one clap of loudish thunder (no lightning) as the front passed over. Not showing on lightning detectors though. Rather unexpected.
  14. That line of showers on the radar is heading my way. Looking fairly impressive at the moment and very dark. Sun is still on full bore, plus met office now have heavy rain for 7 o'clock. Didn't see anything much forecast today though.
  15. From the album: General Convective Weather shots

Shot taken on the evening of 5th Aug 2015 during brief Theta-E plume. The line of cells produced one visible CG and gave spectacular cloudscapes.
  16. Nice cloudscapes this evening.... Just saw big lightning flash as well now.
  17. Some decent undulatus around this evening. Looks like channel storms have conked out atm though.
  18. Interesting, and from www.convectiveweather.co.uk ........ As the ThetaE plume continues to advect northeastwards, potential then shifts to perhaps some elevated convection developing over the English Channel/southern coastal counties of England by the end of the afternoon, this then migrating NEwards through the evening while expanding in coverage, reaching parts of East Anglia by 8-10pm local. Instability is rather meagre, and so lightning activity may be rather sporadic/isolated in nature, but there is certainly some scope for elevated convective showers at the very least. Given low lightning potential, we remain with an ISOL.
  19. I was near cambridge last night and rain was torrential with roads turning into rivers. Very hairy journey. Early on saw a lot of fork lightning in east herts, but later on lightning was continual flashes, multiple times per second until at least 2.00am - but just cloud flashes, still, not seen it that fast in the uk before.
  20. Wow, not a good move to chase tonight! Got caught in the core on a country road and only just made it out - torrential rain and roads totally flooded. Worst rain I've seen for a few years. Now in Royston, with big rumbling thunder. Seen some tasty lightning, but didn't manage to film as I was more concerned with keeping the engine going!
