  1. For heaven's sake, why should one moaning post on a moaning thread generate such a reaction?

Folk who make these negative responses should reflect on how they are viewed by the many on here who subscribe to and  access the site to learn and maybe, yes, have some banter, but not to be shot down at every turn.

One post says cold and snow.  Another says cold and rain! How will we ever learn on here with such contrasting views! At least it's all heading in right direction.

I would really appreciate if the wise and experienced contributors to the forum would "simplify" the possible model outcomes - for "baby" learners  -  ie those with only basic understanding of meteorology.

Previous occasional explanatory posts have been very helpful.

At the moment many posters seem to be commenting in riddles.

  3. Heavy snow shower, just passed over, and now there is watery sunshine. It's going to be a freezing night, tonight, I think.

This morning ( Mon. 27 April ) the car windscreen was a solid sheet of frozen sleet/hailstones not capable of being scraped off. I had to use a bank card to prize the sheet of ice off the edges of the wipers, glass edges  etc. - nearly missed my train!

  4. Perhaps a fantasy island thread would eliminate a lot of these 50year predicted charts. If we kept this thread exclusively for model discussion concerning the next 5 days it would help enable a clearer picture for noobs like me and all longer term predictions go in the FI thread

Has this very "popular" post been responded to by forum hosts or moderators? If it has , the response has been lost ( to me) in the jumble of the preceding posts to this post.

I know this sort of post is discouraged on the MOD thread, (I have also used the fave facility!) but as a learner, i think this is an excellent idea.

  6. No offence at all John. It's like education. If people do not learn for themselves then they will not progress.

That's the point I was trying to get across.

Being uneducated regarding weather sciences ( although not uneducated in certain other regards), I find John's advices very helpful as basic starting points in understanding the models. In order to progress, it is necessary to have a framework on which to grow the knowledge.

  7. Roll on mid January when we can actually appreciate (slightly) longer daylight hours.

you are right there are only seconds different over a few days then only minutes but if you do watch your minutes and the weather is not too gloomy you can tell by xmas  that the evenings are lighter and yes the first few days of January are just as dark as any morning !!!
