  1. Being young, the most snow i can remember was in 2001 when i had around eight inches, which pales in comparison to what you get however i was born in Peterhead and may decide to move back to Scotland.
  2. Could you give me the date one of these wave depressions came, so that i can veiw a synoptic chart of one??????????????????????
  3. We are talking about snow events, so i do not feel that we are off topic. How come you can get snow from a south westerly, is it because of your proximity to the centre of deppresions.
  4. How much snow did they usually bring??????????????
  5. That is what caused the November snow event, the wave must cause dynamic cooling in the upper atmosphere.
  6. This summer seems to be having a poor second half to it.
  7. What size snowfalls do you get from a north westerly?????????????????? I would imagine you did pretty well last winter, living in the center of the country, on high ground, i can get snow from just about any direction, although a easterly is my best setup, when we had the mass snow event at the end of Feburary i was in the firing line from 05:00 to 17:00, i got four inches however the snow was mostly light during the day and as a result the snow was falling at the same rate the sun was thawing. The north east also does particulaly well when a warm front moving from the west collides with cold air, this often creates blizzard conditions such as New Years Eve 2003, i got five inches in about six hours.
  8. Newcastle obviously gets a lot of snow, being in the location which it is in, it can get snow from a northerly or easterly, it is the same in my location however Newcastle probably does better.
  9. What kind of temperatures and how much snow does Inverness get from a standard easterly???????
  10. Hope it happens this winter, i wonder how cold it was???????
  11. I am personally hoping for more snow events such as the end of Feburary. The charts below are for the 18th and 19th of Feburary in 1978.
  12. Great news, how many sunspots are there at the moment?????????????????
  13. Wow, hope it happens again this year.
  14. If the drifts were five foot, how much lying snow was there and also, how did the north east do from these depressions, did they even reach the north east???????
  15. Just think how much snow the system which stalled lasy year would of given had it being winter, approximately forty to fifty centimetres.
  16. If we get any tropical remenants near the end of August or the beggining of September, then we may get gale force easterlies
  17. Yes, i believe i did not see snow in March 1997, in 1998, i saw for inches of snowfall in April.
  18. I cannot remember a year when i did not see lying snow at some point in March.
  19. Here is my next attempt. Next week will be dry for most parts due to the Azores High ridging in from the south west however it will turn wet towards the end of the week, main wind direction will be north westerly and temperatures will range from 14C in the north and 24C in the south. The following weekend will be fairly unsettled however it will remain dry in the south, the main wind direction will again be north westerly, temperatures will range from 12C to 22C. The following week will start unsettled however it will become dryer towards the end of the week, temperatures will range from 12C in the north to 22C in the south, main wind direction will be northerly. The following weekend will be warm, dry and sunny with high pressure centred over the British Isles, main wind direction will be variable and temperatures will range from 24C in the south to 14C in the north. All in all, it will be mostly dry but rather cool, no heatwave in the forseable future.
  20. Yep, at least if we are in a cool meridonal pattern then the Greenland High is there which will encourage cold pooling.
  21. I found it out in a weather dictionary which one of my friends had a few years ago, can't remember what it was called.
  22. If the Met Office definition of a sever winter was a winter with a CET which was 3C below the 1961-1990 average of 4.2C, then the winter of 1979 would not have been classed as sever because that had a CET of 1.6C. I am correct.
  23. Here is my next attempt. This weekend will be cool and cloudy for most parts however it will be wet in the east, main wind direction will be northerly and temperatures will range from 12C in the north and 22C in the south. Next week will be dry for most parts due to the Azores High ridging in from the south west however the north of Scotland will be mostly cloudy and will turn wet towards the end of the week, main wind direction will be north westerly and temperatures will range from 14C in the north and 24C in the south. The following weekend will be unsettled with the winds changing from westerly on saturday to northerly on sunday, temperatures will range from 16C to 22C. The following week will be mostly dry with sunny spells however it will become unsettled towards the end of the week, rather cool with temperatures ranging from 13C in the north to 23C in the south, main wind direction will be north westerly. All in all, it will be mostly dry but rather cool, no heatwave in the forseable future.
  24. Here is my attempt. This weekend will be cool and cloudy for most parts however it will be wet in the east, main wind direction will be northerly and temperatures will range from 15C in the north and 23C in the south. Next week will be dry for most parts due to the Azores High ridging in from the south west however the north of Scotland will be mostly cloudy and will turn wet towards the end of the week, main wind direction will be north westerly and temperatures will range from 20C in the north and 30C in the south. The following weekend will see high pressure move over the British Isles and most places will be dry and sunny with temperatures ranging from 22C in the north and 32C, the wind direction will be variable. The following week will again be dry and mostly sunny however it will be fairly cool with temperatures ranging from 15C to 25C due to the Greenland High absorbing the Azores ridge, main wind direction will be northerly. All in all, it looks as though summer is returning for August.
  25. Yes, i use the average CET of 4.5C so i can compare how cold past winters were, as opposed to this one, and i have no choice but to classify anything less than 3C as severe as the official definition of a severe winter is a winter with a CET of less than 3C.
