  1. I dinnae hae a snaw shovel....does that mean......?
  2. Afternoon Peeps! Dreich again here, currently 10.2c with light rain. I should have been at college today but it was cancelled due to ........lack of college! We were supposed to be moving premises temporarily during the holidays, but BT didn't show up to connect the phones or PC's. Carpet fitter....no show! All our equipment is still in boxes at the old college, so have been sent home with lots of homework to do....which is why I'm on here just now! I'm off for the rest of the week, so I promise I'll get on with some work later....tomorrow maybe, or the next day,or....Friday? Prefer to do some chart watching and I'll go and chop some logs later. Apparently winter is just around the corner, so best keep the log store well filled.
  3. I'm enjoying the charts that are appearing here regularly and you can almost taste the expectation too, but what I'd like to know is......what could happen weatherwise to prevent the cold and snow arriving? I'm deliberately not getting my hopes up as they were dashed in December, but I'd just like to know if there's a chance of that happening again in view of the fact that the various forecasts for once all appear to be singing from the same hymn sheet.
  4. Dreich! Currently 11.5c, stiff breeze, light rain. Horrible, horrible weather.
  5. Happy new year to all! A very quiet night here on Skye, saw the bells in at home then watched fireworks from somewhere else in the village from the cosiness of my own sitting room! Embra eat yer heart oot! Bed about 1.30 am, only to be woken at 3.30 by the holidaymakers in the cottage next door setting off some more fireworks. Cats not amused.! Went for a walk at lunchtime after a hearty breakfast of Glenmorangie porridge and fried eggs on toast, returned to find our first foot happliy sitting in my living room with the OH and a glass o' wine. Well, what else could a girl do but open her bottle of Jura Superstition and join them! Big Sis currently prepping veg, steak pie ready to go in oven, made cranachan this morning, so bring it on!!! Hope you all have a great time, slainte mhath!
  6. Yet another wild night up here, getting a bit bored of howling gales and horizontal rain now. This brings that ominous drip, drip in the bedroom, and I still haven't found where the rain is getting in, probably behind the wardrobe. Anyhoo, hope it stays dry(ish) and calm(ish) for all you Noo Year revellers. Have a good one when it comes. Slainte mhath!
  7. Morning Peeps! We had a terrific thunderhail storm last night about 10.30, which did, off course, kick the power off. It was brill! When I looked out the window, everything was white, but that's probably the nearest we'll get to a snow covering for a long while. Getting breezy again, strong winds forecast for later on today.
  8. Yes, an interesting evening up here. Power went off again at 8pm, so I was very thankful for oil lamps, tea lights, candles and battery lanterns. The battery lanterns didn't last as well as I thought they would but the oil lamps are worth their weight in gold. Temp was 11.2 at 10.30 last night and we had a strong (ish) puff of 64.1mph. No idea when the power came back on as I headed to my scratcher armed with torch and book. Heard various things being thrown around the garden during the night, will investigate later to see if any damage done. All ducks and chooks accounted for, cats happliy snoozing on the bed.
  9. Blowin' a real hooley up here! Current temp is 11 degrees, last gust recorded was 53.6 mph and our power has just come back on. Not for long methinks!
  10. Wind really beginning to pick up now, and we've already had the first power cut. Off for about 1 hour 40 minutes. I'm well armed with tea lights and battery lanterns and the fire is roaring up the chimney. See you on the other side........of the island! Every chance that some things may get blown away...
  11. Temp now up to 10.9, this is just as bad as Christmas day 2011.
  12. Nasty, nasty day ahead! We've already had a 47.9 mph blast and the worst is yet to come. Rain horizontal, and I can hear an ominous drip somewhere in this room. Wind forcing rain into tiny crevice somewhere in the outside wall.....not good. Better make sure all batteries are charged up, torches and tea-lights at the ready, and tie anything down that can be tied down!
  13. Just managed to stay above freezing last night,. still cold and we had a wee flurry of snow late morning. In for a bit of a pasting over the weekend, so just off to check that all torches and lanterns have fully charged batteries.....just in case!
  14. OH Joy! ( Not! ) OH is supposed to be taking his Maw hame on Friday and bringning my Big Sis up on Saturday.....maybe not!
  15. Currently 6.6c here with a light breeze. Hope everyone has a great festive season
  16. Yeah....you can dream! But it may happen yet, not for Krimbo, but maybe next year, eh?
  17. Rain finally off now, wind dropping. Wasn't as bad as i thought it would be, but more to come over the next few days.
  18. Aye, a wee bit breezy right enough, but I see you got your seasonal cairry oot flown in yesterday, so that's you sorted for the next few days then! Cheers!
  19. Morning all! Like Snowy owl, we have an exceptionally dark morning up here. Brekky well down the hatch and am thinking of another cup o' tea and forcing masel oot o' ma scratcher. LIght rain and a wee breeze up here, but to get worse later.
  20. It's been so calm up here, no rain, fairly calm. Tomorrow ...all change! One thing I will say about the rain in Skye, at least it knows where to go....straight down the hills and into the sea! Stay safe everyone!
  21. Light rain here, no wind though. I think the breeze may pick up tomorrow, and the weekend looks like crap....
  22. Yep, plenty of the wet stuff to come, and a green Christmas too, but if Netweather is right I may well be in for a white Boxing day!
  23. Oh, now that looks a bit more like it, but I'm not holding my breath!
  24. Evening peeps! Been below freezing up here for the last three nights, but a big change on the way, eh? I've been following with interest the 'will it, won't it snow' comments. I still think it's too early to forecast anything with any accuracy, but for those of you who love the white stuff, I do hope you get a decent dump sometime soon!
