The only notable difference I can see is that the front to the north is further north.
sorry mr data that latest FAX does not indicate snow for the NW to me,the one earlier was better.
maybe the front might reach east cheshire south manc before ot fizzles,we'll see
-
Hmmmm updated FAX are a downgrade for the region. The low is further east so the snow may push more NE and miss us all together!!
ARRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHH
-
Latest bbc forecast has the snow reaching manchester and then fizzling out through the morning tomorrow.
Those to the north and west of manchester may well miss out if that forecast holds true.
-
Difficult to estimate snow depths as it stands but i think storm animal and james could well see another 5 to 10cm tomorrow morning.
If the system fragments it could end up as 1 or 2 cm dusting but the bbc graphics showed no break up but its a nowcast, this may happen but then again it could intensify as it hits the southern pennines and explode over us.
I still say the west of this region will see little or any lying snow however.
-
WOW BBC really ramping it up for the NW of England tomorrow although the further west you are i think it will become very marginal in terms of temp and precipitation.Alex shows the band breaking up west of manchester.
-
BBC going for plenty of snow for the NW tomorrow although the graphics highlighted the snow fragmenting as it moved through Northern lancs
-
my snow is starting to melt quite quickly now.Last night was above zero when that blastec cloud moved in and now the temp is approaching 5 degrees!
BBc went for max of 2 so a very disappointing 24 hours here
-
Around half the GFS 00z runs push the band of precipitation further North still perhaps to effect larger parts of the NW.

VERY borderline thoug with 850's above the magix -5 line.I expect this whole thing to get downgraded as we head through the day it might actually end up melting my snow away yet.
-
An inch! Higher ground or eastern districts?
Also somebody mentioned the March 2006 event - got nothing. As I said last decent snow event would be winter 00/01 (I think) and last proper snow event Feb 96. Over the last few years there has been a few transitional snow events imedietely preceeded by rain, or a bit of snow that has practically melted instantly.
The lack of posting on this board just shows how negative things are looking i this region as far as snow prospects are concerned!!
i have 6inches and over a foot drifts and subzero maxima and minima. i think that certainly counts as severe!!!

What a real shame last night was, had heavy rain what happened.
And whats happened to the snow risk later this week.
yeh real shame that TS.
I cant complain im off out sledging this morning as its still thick here <_<
-
Yes, here too. We're very low-lying though so I'm not surprised. Hard frost has followed the thaw though!
I'm just hoping it won't thaw on the hills before the weekend so we can go sledging with the kids. Any reports from Hyde hill?
Andrew
snow line around 100m although it gets thicker the higher you go.Up around 190m here and there has hardly been any thaw and the temps have dropped off to around -0.5 here with a cold day on offer temps of around 2 degrees according to the meto and a hard frost tonight to follow.
edit around 6 icnhes with up to a foot in the drifts here

For gods sake! All the snow has melted! I thought it was supposed to be cold all week with no daytime thaw? We've ended up with a nightime thaw for the 3rd time this winter. How crap. Has it even melted any where else?!!!
Slight thaw here but most of the snow intact.Looks to be clearing away now and the skies are partly clear with temps hovering around zero.
-
Showing signs of intensifying over Yorkshire but also signs of the system fizzling out to the south and east.
I reckon another two hours of precip and then the skies will clear.
Desperately clinging onto snow here but its becoming more and more marginal by the minute and im praying the front passes before the switch to rain
-
Still snowing moderately here, temperature -0.5oC. Just been watching BBC news, M62 looks pretty bad, guess its not pleasant at Saddleworth Junc 22, (which is the highest motorway in England) Large parts of Scotland are having a total non-event, bet they're going mad, just shown it raining heavily in Melrose........eek!
hi mate yes i think james can breathe abit easier now the colder clearer air is tucking in behind the front now and even if it does turn a bit sleety in the next hour or so it wont be enough to melt this amazing snowcover very much at all.
18Z going for subzero MAXIMA on sat and sun.
One of the best events to hit this area for may many years
-
18cm so far but it's dying down now, temp creeping up slowly 0.4°C, I'm hoping the colder air will be quick to catch up behind the warm sector otherwise it might turn to rain.
Yes its still marginal but im hoping the precip dies down now james we have about 14 cm here and more in the drifts. The temps should drop overnight as the skies clear and i reckon only a partial thaw tomorrow and then watch the minima plunge tomorrow night,i reckon if the skies stay clear it could be -4 or -5.
On to wed temps struggling here to get much above 1 degree so any thaw will be very slow and again another cold night wed with temps down to -5.
Thur/Fri could see more snow coming down from the North in an Artic airstream.
In summery we need to tonight out of the way and then it will be crisp cold winter sunshine with i would imagine some stunning sights.
-
I'm just worried about it turning to rain as it's still rising slowly, up to 0.3°C now, hopefully it won't go any higher.
Indeed if it goes any higher than that it will turn to sleet.
Becoming VERY borderline now oh be off with you mild sector you have me worried
-
Just a quick heads up from Oldham next to Huddersfield.
Temp -0.6 and moderate snow falling, around 13cm of snow with frifts now approaching 20cm.
Looks like the heavier stuff has hit here just on the outskirts of west yorkshire.
Any thoughts on the rest of the night guys?
-
Yes the mild sector is now spreading out and will probably envelop more of the region than i anticipated.
Im actually hoping the precip clears away now as i would be gutted if we got heavy rain washing my 12 cm away.I think thats 6inches level snow and slighty more in the drifts.
ALL TOGETHER NOW GO AWAY MILD SECTOR!!!!
-
Heavy snow here sice 3pm although the temp is now about zero hopefully it won't rise any further as its now becoming marginal.
Hows the radar james?
-
hmm the band seems quite light in intensity on te latest radar return.
thats the meto one by the way, shouldnt we be seeign more yellows and greens on that map everything heading here from now on looks light?
-
Has slowed down a bit here but i think things maybe starting to intensify again where james?
-
West yorks/greater manchester getting absolutely hammered right now

If i were to be honest as it stands, not a great place to be tomorrow kendal.
The current data suggests that the front will struggle to reach manchester so even if there is a margin of error of 20 miles or so you would still miss out.
it could all change in the next 12 hours but as it stands i think you might miss out
