  1. Whilst the majority are looking at the charts now, I would urge caution over expecting anything significant away from the NW-

Taking the 18z in isolation & NOT using the fax its a VERY dry run with a rainy breakdown- with the exception of some tracnsitional sleet over the pennines-

The back edge snow for the South is poor, the trough is OK around 54-- but at a time when suface temps arent condusive to Accumulations & saturday looks dry-

Not really that enthraling is it??

The updated 96 Hr fax that you cannot see on WZ yet is poor with the frontal zone not occluded to the SW--

All in all I wouldnt be to expectant- In fact other than NI & the NW expect Nothing--

    S

that does not sound to promising steve but i alluded to the latest beeb forecast a short while ago and it didnt give all that much hope away from the nw to be honest

  2. More than happy to oblige :D

    Hi Chris :)

Yes coincidences do happen - maybe New Year 2008 we will have a silver 25th anniversary celebration?

By the way your March 07 snow dome sig is out of date :)

    Tamara

Yes that is a stunning chart Tamara. What would we give for something similar this time round?Solid block to our NW and you can see those systems off the Eastern seaboard going nowhere in a hurry, look at the the lovely LP over Azores and into Europe, cold rampers dreams come true!!!!

With regards to the coming winter, enjoyable as these threads are,IMO they dont mean a great deal.

  3. Well what ac omplete and utter load of cobblers.

The words 'non event' spring to mind(yet again).Typically the belt started decaying just as it reached NW England meaning the flurries blowing around in the wind was as good as it got!!!!!

For those in the NW,i think this area is rapidly becoming the snow desert of england,im so p'd off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. well i can say that i am really gutted :o nothing but rain here last night , not that i was expecting anything else

i really do hate this country for its winter weather it always ends up as a dissapointment well for it does for me anyway

congrats to all of you who did get some snow you lucky people you

ABSOLUTELY BONE DRY here in Greater manchester, dont think its goona reach here, gutted.

  5. A quite fascinating thread and congratulations to those involved in it,a lot of that to be frank goes way over my mortal head!

My opinion, fwiw,is that GW has made a *massive*difference to our winters in particular. The domainance of the AZH and Icelandic low has been truely horrific for the cold lovers in this country during the winter months.Have to say i am firmly in the sceptics camp wrt LRF's,I dont believe in them at all.Gegraphically speaking the UK is not in a good spot for sustained cold, obviously we have the Atlantic to thank for that, one thing that does stand out for me personally is the lack of cold or polar NW'lys during the post 1988 era, anybody have any theories as to why these synoptics rsrely rear their wonderful head nowadays?

  6. Great to have kept an eye on the threads through the summer and good to be back as Autumn sets in too !Anyway,October is my least favourite month, getting too late for sustained heat and a tad too early for sustained cold.Nothing beats a cold clear November afternoon as the sun starts to drop against the background of bare trees, heralding the onset of my fav season.......Winter!!!!!!

  7. Rain rain rain and more rain.Dont know if anyone keeps rainfall stats here in the north west but we have rain on an almost daily basis now and its getting very very tiresome.

Is this the most godforesaken part of the country? B)

1 Always worst off for rain(too much of it)

2Almost always worst off for snow(almost none of it)

    Rant over! :)

  8. Damien,i to love the snow and your'e posts are always informative.HOWEVER,why do you constantly make references to communsim/capatlism and the cold war?And could you please xplain your 'i miss socialism'remark, because if your refering to communsim in the eastern block then i can assure you many of my own family were persecuted under the communist regime as were millions of others in satellite states across eastern europe.

(If ive got you wrong then please accept my apologies).
