  1. Arrived back in Prague last night for Christmas, certainly feeling very seasonal here at -6°C this morning Shame about the possibility of UK Christmas cold going pear shaped but it was never a ‘done deal’, as some of the more experienced and sensible posters pointed out. Plenty more chances to come and with the current state of the atmosphere (no raging PV, for example), it could well be an exciting January for coldies.
  2. Deep cold and snow looks very unlikely in the SW region as currently modelled, but with the current uncertainty, who knows
  3. Thank you I think I understand (though can be a bit thick sometimes)
  4. Did anyone find out what ‘model latency theory’ is? Not heard that one before
  5. But that’s completely normal, especially where cold and snow are concerned. Christmas is a week away and a lot can change in that time. Plenty of interest for coldies at the moment, of course but things will chop and change a few times and it’s best not to get sucked into the hype on here until it’s actually snowing outside your window lol. Must be a challenging time for professional forecasters
  6. Beautiful sunny day here in Prague at last, but I’m flying to London shortly for a 4 day work trip where it’s looking cloudy. Seems to be a fair bit of excitement in the mad thread....looking better for colder weather after Christmas?
  7. That’s unfortunate. Didn’t last too long here, either but managed a nice, long walk in the snow both times. All gone now. It’s early days for winter so no reason to get despondent, especially in C Europe where it snows much, much more readily than in S England, for example.
  8. Already had two decent snowfalls here in the Czech Republic (and Slovakia had more than we did), so feel quite lucky with seasonal weather so far, this winter. Early days yet.
  9. Yes, I could sense teddies being readied for a mass throwing event. Puzzling, in some ways. Especially as Christmas is still over a week away. From a selfish viewpoint, I hope it doesn’t snow in London until after Boxing Day, as I’m flying in for a work trip on the 27th and can’t be bothered with all the drama a bit of snow will cause at Heathrow. Working for an airline definitely tempers one’s love for snow over the years!
  10. It’ll certainly do that. How did it get to the stage of being excited by a drippy 2 inches?
  11. Well....some interesting charts today for the Christmas period, especially if you’re a coldie. Will it be an epic white Christmas.....or will there be an epic, teddy throwing meltdown? Looks colder for C Europe next week, anyway. Hopefully an end to the grey tedium , at least.
  12. A sunny, cold high in winter is lovely, not boring at all, imho. A cloudy high, though...
  13. It’s begun UK weather forecast: 'Snowbomb' to hit country with final 'major' storm of year - Mirror Online WWW.GOOGLE.CO.UK The UK is set for more mild weather before a "snowbomb" hits from December 27 with rain and snow for parts of the country in the final "major" storm of the year
  14. Quite mild here for the last few days with temperatures reaching 7°C. All the snow has gone but skies are back to grey. It’s been a very cloudy period of weather, so am craving sunshine, this persistent gloomy dullness isn’t good for anybody.
  15. Lovely winter’s day here, sunny and 3°C. Still a fair bit of snow around
  16. A cloudy high in winter is certainly depressing (though giving ‘usable weather’). Had weeks of that here before the snow arrived this week. A nice, cold, sunny high is totally different, very enjoyable with crisp winter sunshine by day and fog and frost by night. Very seasonal ??
  17. First sunny day here in Lord knows how long. Lovely to see the at last. It has meant temperatures have risen to 3°C currently, which is slowly thawing the snow cover.
  18. Yes, early 80’s was fantastic. So many good bands. Plenty in the late 80’s too, but TOTP’s was starting to downhill
  19. There have been some decent wintry episodes in the last couple of decades, though fewer and further between. The 80’s had a few epic snow and cold spells but some of the winters were virtually snow-less and mild, too. I spent a couple of hours on YouTube today, watching the Story of Top of the Pops 1983, 84 and 85. Fabulous, took me right back
  20. We were always a bit soft, down south! Not so in Scotland, obviously. But I remember snowy scenes like you posted from the 80’s in London. Doesn’t happen much anymore. Snowing heavily again here, bit on the wet side though. Village pond is frozen now.
  21. Think there’s about 5cm here currently, certainly no calamity but it’s looking very pretty. Think E Czech Republic and Slovakia will get more snow than here. 25cm in the UK certainly would be a katastrofa, though!
  22. Snowing quite heavily here this morning, with a covering of a few cm’s. Second snowfall in the space of a week
